Decent acquisition although don't know whether he'll be a starter as Richards, Corluka, Dunne as all decent and he is poor at LB.

MADRID, July 30 (Primera Liga) - Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon claims the club could sign Hamburg star Rafael van der Vaart this weekend.

Reports in Spain suggest an improved bid of 10million has been accepted and, with the two clubs set to meet in London this weekend at the Emirates Cup, Calderon is confident Van der Vaart is only days away from becoming a Madrid player.

Just saw this on F365:

Lord knows how much truth there is in this one but the Daily Mail website is exclusively claiming that Liverpool and Aston Villa have agreed a £19m deal (yes, we know) for Barry that involves £17.5m plus Steve Finnan. Apparently, they will be selling Jermaine Pennant and Yossi Benayoun to balance the books.

http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=News&article=494612&lid=NewsHeadline&Title=Portuguese+midfielder+Armaury+Bischoff+joins+Arsenal

Arsenal can today confirm the signing of midfielder Amaury Bischoff.

The French-born Portugal Under-21 international, 21, was a youngster with French clubs SR Colmar and Strasbourg before moving to Werder Bremen in 2005.

Bischoff, who can play either in the centre of midfield or on the right, was a regular at youth levels for Werder Bremen. His one senior appearance for the Bundesliga club came against Celta Vigo in the UEFA Cup in 2007.

Amaury has played for France's Under-18 team, however in 2007 he elected to train with Portugal and to date has appeared for their Under-21 side.

Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to welcome Amaury, who will wear squad No 28, and will join up with his team-mates for pre-season when the squad returns from their training camp in Austria.

Major meh.

Villa call off Barry move to Reds

Aston Villa say that Gareth Barry will be staying at the club and not moving to Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Villa claim the Reds failed to meet a deadline to sign the midfielder and now any move is off.

"During talks in the past few days, a final deadline to conclude this episode was set that all parties were aware of and agreed to," said a Villa statement.

"This deadline has now passed and so Gareth will remain with Villa."

More to follow.

The fact of the matter is, if Liverpool stump up the cash he'll be away. Can't see Villa turning them down now just because a deadline has past. If growing up in Northern Ireland has taught me anything, it's that deadlines are a crock of shit...
