They were linked with Villa recently, guess this rules that signing out.

Seems SAF is Arsenaling a lot with his side recently? Buying a lot of prospects (Nani, Anderson, Smalling, Obertan, Diouf, Tosic...) and very few "Finished article" footballers (Berbatov, Tévez/Owen, not sure where to put Valencia)

Glazers love money and therefore don't want players with no sell-on value perhaps?

I doubt at this point they will get their money back on Nani and Anderson. May need to wait a while for that one.

They signed Anderson for 18M and Nani for £14-17M (according to wiki), so it dosent look like they were looking to sell them on for a profit.

But they'd both still command hefty fees as they are still young where is they were bought when they were late 20s this isn't the case so much.

Messi should no longer be taking his place for granted now....his place could be under threat....

Just imagine if Barca had signed Snodgrass when they had the chance, Messi would still be sweeping up leaves and wearing orthopedic shoes on both feet.

Nicolas Gaitan

(Boca Juniors)

Described as a cross between Messi and David Silva, Gaivan is the 22 year old Argentine prodigy that has already made his debut for the Argentinean national team and is a key player for Boca Juniors, alongside former Villarreal star Juan Roman Riquelme. “Nico” is a player with big potential: blessed with superb technique, great dribbling ability and the ability to score spectacular goals, Gaivan is left footed but can play on the right wing and as an attacking midfielder.

Nicolas Lodeiro

(Ajax)

The 21 year old Uruguayan prodigy has been labelled the “new Messi” and broke into the Nacional team at 16 and has earned rave reviews since. Liverpool were linked with a move for Lodeiro last year, before he signed with Ajax in January. Two footed, Lodeiro is an excellent prospect: he is quick, a dead ball specialist, possesses a lethal left foot and has great control, dribbling ability and can glide past players with ease. Since joining Ajax, the midfielder has played in 6 games (all as a substitute), and scored one goal. If he continues his development in Holland, we could very well see Lodeiro in the Premiership in the future.

Javier Pastore

(Palermo)

The Argentine playmaker burst onto the scene last season for Huracan, where he obliterated River Plate in one game and was linked with a move to Manchester United. Creative and stylish, the 20 year old Pastore has excellent link up play and can play behind the striker or on either wing. He is capable of scoring goals from long range and joined Palermo last summer for £8 million, as he wanted regular first team football. This season for Palermo, Pastore has played in 28 games, scoring 2 goals and providing 4 assists. If he continues his fine form, it won’t be long before United or another Premiership club comes calling again.

Alexis Sanchez

(Udinese)

The 21 year old Chilean winger has been likened to both Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and is known as “El Nino Maravilla” or “The Wonder Boy”. Possessing a vast array of tricks, an abundance of pace, great dribbling skills and the and the ability to provide great assists, Sanchez was heavily linked with a move to Man United last year. This season, Sanchez has played in 26 games for Udinese, scoring 2 goals.

Reimond Manco

(Juan Aurich, on loan from PSV)

The 19 year old Peruvian prodigy rose to prominence in the 2007 South American Under 17 Championship, where he was named player of the tournament. The likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid were linked with a move for Manco before he joined Dutch side PSV. A natural goalscorer, Manco is a fine dribbler and can set up goals as well as scoring them and has already made his debut for the Peruvian national team.

Diego Buonanotte

(River Plate)

The 21 year old Argentine playmaker is tiny yet super skilled (he is only 5 foot 2) and the latest in a long line of small, talented Argentine playmakers who have gone on to great things, like Messi, Diego Maradona and Pablo Aimar. Buonanotte has represented Argentina in the 2008 Olympics and has a low centre of gravity, excellent dribbling skills which allow him to ghost past defenders and has a penchant for spectacular goals.

Matias Defederico

(Corinthians)

The 20 year old Defederico rose to prominence by playing in the same side as fellow prodigy Javier Pastore for Huracan. Now at Corinthians, Defederico has been lauded as the new Messi because of his explosive dribbling, similar height, unpredictability and ability to cut inside on his left foot. Defederico has been chased by numerous clubs, with Liverpool, Tottenham and Barcelona all reported to be interested in the Argentine prodigy.

Sebastian Coates

(Nacional)

The Uruguay youngster is one of the best defensive prospects in South America and is tipped to be part of Uruguay’s World Cup squad. Coates, 19, is a tall, elegant defender that is hugely composed, quick, tall (he is 6 foot 4) and strong in the tackle. The likes of Juventus and Inter Milan have registered their interest in the defensive prodigy, but his strength and speed would be suited to the Premiership.

Fabian Rinaudo

(Gimnasia La Plata)

The 22 year old Argentine midfielder has been labelled as the “new Mascherano” and was linked with a move to Everton last year. Aggressive and tough tackling, Rinaudo likes to get forward more than Mascherano and has bags of potential. He made his debut for Argentina last year against Panama.

Eduardo Salvio

(Atletico Madrid)

The 19 year old striker is one of Argentina’s hottest commodities and is tipped for a big future. Operating primarily as a striker, Salvio can play on the wing and has a low centre of gravity, is a good finisher and skilful with the ball at his feet. Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal were linked with a move for Salvio, before he joined Atletico Madrid for £10 million in January.

Sandro

(Internacional, soon to be Tottenham)

The Internacional midfielder is set to join Tottenham in the summer, after being linked to Spurs for the last year. A commanding defensive midfielder and known for his ruthless tackling and amazing stamina, Sandro may not be the creative and skilful player that we have come to expect of Brazilians, but he makes up for that with his constant energy, quickness and defensive ability.

Wellington Silva

(Fluminense, soon to be Arsenal)

The 17 year old Brazilian is one of the best players in his age group for Brazil and has already signed a £3.5 million with Arsenal, but cannot join the club until he turns 18 in 2011. A deadly striker that can also operate on the wing, Wellington Silva is technically fantastic, has great football intelligence and is excellent on the ball. Set to become a world class player for Arsenal and Brazil in the future.

Dodo

(Corinthians)

The Brazilian defender, whose full name is Jose Rodolfo Pires Ribiero Dodo, was set to join Manchester United this year, after agreeing a £5.4 million deal with the club last summer. Even though reports said Dodo had signed with United, it turns out that they now just have first option to sign him for £8 million. Now 18, Dodo is benefitting from learning under Brazilian legends Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo at Corinthians, which can only make him a better player. Dodo can play at left back and centre back and mixes that South American flair, pace and skill with a European toughness.

Neymar

(Santos)

The 18 year old striking sensation has been labelled the “new Robinho” and has been linked with all the big clubs already, with the likes of Chelsea, Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Skilful, trickly, with bags of pace and confidence, Neymar scored three goals in his first five games for Santos and looks like the real deal. Santos have slapped a £31.5 million price tag on the player, who is under contract until 2014. Manchester City have first refusal on Neymar, but Robinho has warned the Brazilian prodigy against a move to either City or Chelsea.

Walter

(Internacional)

Walter, or Walter Henrique da Silva, is a 20 year old striker that hit the headlines when he was the top scorer in the under 20 South American cup, with 5 goals. His performances for Internacional have alerted the likes of Juventus, Man United and Barcelona, who are all interested in signing the striker.

Lulinha

(Corinthians)

Lulinha has been dubbed the “new Ronaldinho” and is a player that has been on the radar of the big clubs for years. The classic Brazilian number 10, Lulinha operates as an attacking midfielder or a second striker and possesses a fantastic array of tricks and flicks, defence-splitting through balls and assured finishing. Corinthians slapped a £24 million price tag on Lulinha, to ward off interest from Chelsea and Manchester United. Now 19, Lulinha is spending a year on loan at GD Estoril-Praia.

Philippe Coutinho

(Vasco de Gama)

The 17 year old midfield prodigy was signed by Inter Milan in 2008 for €3.8 million, but loaned back to Vasco for two years until he turns 18 in July. Obscenely talented, Coutinho is one to keep an eye on but considering the competition for places at Inter Milan, with the likes of Diego Milito, Mario Balotelli and Samuel Eto’o all vying for places, Coutinho will find it hard to break into the side. You never know, a move to the Premiership could become a possibility in a few years time.

Douglas Costa

(Shakhtar Donetsk)

The midfielder has been labelled the “new Ronaldinho” (a regular theme with any young Brazilian midfielder, as most of them are even the next Ronaldinho or Robinho), and was heavily linked with a move to Man United last summer. The former Gremio prodigy, 19, possesses all the skills that Ronaldinho has: a free kick specialist, with quick feet, a vast array of tricks and the ability to beat even the toughest of opponents. Douglas Costa signed with Ukraine side Shakhtar in January for €12 million, following in the footsteps of his countryman Elano. Costa made his debut in the Europa League defeat to Fulham and although he has signed a five year deal, it is rumoured that he only signed to impress Europe’s big clubs and earn a move to Man United.

Keirrison

(Barcelona, on loan at Fiorentina)

The 21 year old striker has been dubbed the “new Romario” and signed for Barcelona in 2009 for £15 million, after impressing in Brazil with Palmeiras. A real poacher will silky passing, Keirrison is a real threat in front of goal, but attitude problems have marred his time in Europe so far. After a failed stint at Benfica, Keirrison is now on loan at Fiorentina, where has scored one goal in 6 substitute appearances. The problem for Keirrison is the amount of competition in the Barca attack when he returns, with the likes of Messi, Henry, Bojan, Pedro and Ibrahimovic all vying for places, and the Brazilian prodigy has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

Dentinho

(Corinthians)

The 21 year old prodigy has obviously benefitted playing alongside Ronaldo for Corinthians, and has a release fee in his contract for 36 million euro’s. Dubbed the “next Robinho” (surprise surprise!), Dentinho has plenty of natural ability, but has improved his positional play and is now willing to run more at opposition defender’s. He plays as a second striker, but there are fears that he is too small and too slight to make it in the Premier League, but that has not stopped the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United and Real Madrid all being interested in Dentinho.

Plain and simple more number of top named brazilians failed in the premiership than any other south American country it’s a fact we can name more failed than succeded players so these top 10 that are going to take the premiership by storm likelyhood one out of all the named here maybe able to stick the weather and style of football played here as the Brazilian leauge is a joke if you have ever watched it they don’t really tackle at all it’s all about looking good on the ball and the prefect pass so sorry I don’t rate any of them until they come and play here and prove they are as good as all that.

Douglas Costa, the “next Ronaldinho”…don’t make me laugh. He looked average in an average Euro team (Shaktar)…Fulham brushed them aside with ease. The very best Brazilians will end up at the likes of Barca, Real, AC Milan and Inter. They can’t adapt to cold mid-winter away games to Newcastle…Having said that, if Sandro is anything to go by, he could be the exception to the norm. Let’s hope he’s the real deal for Spurs next season.

So in a couple of years we should have about 6 Messis in Europe, good stuff :D

Quite lovely how a lot of these dudes labelled "the new Messi" are maybe 1 or 2 years younger than him only :D

Salvio hasn't looked nowt special for Atlético so far, but still early days.

Marca publishes the list of candidates to manage Madrid next season (and given the power they have, it has to be taken seriously as muppet-tastic as it looks)

- Rafa Benítez

- José Mourinho

- Fabio Capello (come on, they sacked him twice after winning them leagues, why would he ever want to go there again?)

- Ancelotti

- Scolari (currently earning as much as Cronaldo managing in Uzbekistan)

why would they want rafa? not only is he a proven failure at liverpool but the football played is utterly shocking which seems contrary to what real want.

jose would want 100% control-not likely to be given

capello you summed it up best

ancelotti why move to the only job more unstable than the one hes in?

scolari-just why

Mourinho doesn't have 100% control at Inter btw. At the start of last season he said he "wanted" Quarasema and got him. Didn't sound like he was bringing in the players.

so basically, rafa or scolari? haha

Rafa and Real Madrid are opposites in terms of style of play expected, interferance by the board and control given to the manager for transfers etc. He left Valencia for less.

Rafa Benítez is Madrid through and through, they already wanted him when he was at Valencia but they never made a firm approach. They cite the fact that he has already managed in Madrid (the B team) and that he is a "proven winning manager" (Spanish league, CL...) that is used to deal with top players.

Mourinho is the only one of that lot that genuinely scares me, since I think that Pérez might finally come to his senses and hand over control to a manager with his reputation in order to become rellevant in Europe once again. Will see what happens when he sends Raúl to the stands and tells Cronaldo to track back and not shoot every time he gets the ball, though.

Capello got moved on because of his style of football, twice. I just can't see the Bernabéu taking a liking to Mourinho or Benítez brand of football. But maybe they will suck it up this time.

Fellaini was already linked to Madrid a couple years ago before Everton snapped him up, but that was another board.

Just went and lurked in the soiled dens of iniquity (aka Real Madrid forums), and they are reporting what you say although from a Belgian newspaper. They are all making fun of the afro 'do, too.

It's in all the Belgian media by the looks of it.

Apparently Spurs, Villa & Bayern were interested in signing him the same summer we bought him while Chelsea & Madrid had been scouting him as one for the future. Chelsea's chief scout (some Dutch guy) was quoted talking about him a few months ago.

I'd be gutted if he was sold so quickly. His performances this season were absolutely immense until the injury.
