2015 -

2005 - Owen

1996 - Shearer

1984 - Keegan

1975 - Macdonald

1965 - Robson

1955 - FA Cup

1945 - Milburn

1936 - Stubbins

1925 - Gallacher

Roughly every 10 years we have something to be happy about. If Pardew somehow gets sacked it'd definitely count.

Owen's a bit of a stretch, it's more like every 15-20 years TBH.

Singing one of the best strikers in the world for a club record fee is smile worthy. The stuff after...not so much.

Pardew going covers 2015. Anything else is a bonus.

If an alien came down to earth with a load of cash looking to buy a football club we would look like one of the better buys in the premier league

The likes of Ayoze and hopefully Abeid, Aarons et al. is about the only positive I can find. Young players who have shown they might have the potential to be quality players.

Only for them to be sold in a few years for profit  :okay:

Can anybody think of anything positive to take from Newcastle United at this moment in time?

I'm really struggling. The whole club is rotten at the moment.

We have an incompetent oaf as chairman and an ineffectual Mr Nice in the managers chair. He's ably supported by Terry McDermott and Lee Clark. Why should anybody expect progress to be made with these three organising the side?

Hehe, clicked on this thinking it was anew thread, even more so after reading that first bit in bold.

Wasn't till I got to 'Terry McDermott' I realised it was from 2006.

Pretty damning that almost 10 years on the opening lines are still as relevant today.

It was ambitious, but real football people had Owen sussed out long before 2005 and common sense should've prevented spending £16.5m. Both Graham Taylor and Sir Bobby publically said he wasn't a great footballer and would decline when the pace started to fade long before it did. Owen was an ego stroke for Shepherd.

Owen, man. Never has there been a more hateful player at NUFC in my lifetime.

In terms of him as a professional and a person he definitely tops the bill.

In terms of ability, Alan Smith, Nicky Butt, Babayaro and Williamson boiled my piss far more
