It's amazing what a series of clumsy step overs can get you nowadays.

Aye, Milner's a quality example of a shite footballer paying dividends from having an extortionate wage slip.

Well Chronicle said there were 13 players, with the mention of Smith and Shola, it doesn't quite add up....

You only presumed your list of players were there though. If someone's made a mistake about this, I think it's you tbh.

I named 13 senior players who aren't listed by the Chronicle or nufc.com as injured or on an extended break. Clearly either the Chronicle are wrong, or an additional two players are absent for an unexplained reason.

Edgar is injured, recovering from hernia op as far as i can remember!

Edit: As mentioned above!

Wasnt that tradition only started in the Robson years?

Cant recall Keegan doing it in his first stint here.

Could be wrong though.

Latest ITK knowledge from training is that the lads were getting on well.

You just wait til Joey gets back he'll sort that right out

Kevin Keegan will put his players through a punishing pre-season in a bid to make Newcastle United the fittest team in the Premier League.

Keegan's squad are being given gruelling double sessions this week, their first back at the club after the summer break.

While the 57-year-old looks like going into the new campaign with one of the smallest squads in the top-flight, he is determined they will be in the best shape.

And his players were given a rude awakening on Monday when they reported back, with his staff – including new fitness specialist Mark Hulse – putting them through two tough sessions, setting the tone for the build up to the first pre-season friendly.

Newcastle are away to Hartlepool on July 19, giving Keegan and his staff two full weeks to prepare the squad for action.

Hulse – who left Crystal Palace last season, and has also worked with England's youth teams – is working with fitness coach Adrian Lamb to boost the fitness of Keegan's men.

Keegan had just 14 senior players report to the club's Benton HQ for the start of pre-season.

Abdoulaye Faye and Geremi have been allowed extended leave after playing through the summer for Senegal and Cameroon, while Joey Barton is waiting on his release from prison.

Mark Viduka is not expected to be ready to start training for several weeks after a summer operation on his Achilles, while David Edgar (groin), Andy Carroll (heel), Wesley Ngo Baheng (knee) and Tama Kadar (knee) are all in the treatment room.

New signing Jonas Gutierrez, meanwhile, will not join up with his United team-mates until later in the month, having also been given a longer break, having played for Argentina last month.

Our PS seems to have been very quiet and behind closed doors so far?

Not the usual updates from .co.uk this year, or the players really.

I suspect Keegan is keeping things like this for a reason, much like our transfer activity.

Not got a problem with it if we come out all guns blazing (and not get hammered by Manure on the first day of the season!!)
