The 22-year-old, who was released by the Magpies in March, will appear before Newcastle Magistrates on August 21. The charge relates to an incident which happened in the early hours of January 23 at a hotel in Jesmond. Ranger, a former England under-19 player, had spells on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley before having his contract cancelled at St James’s Park. He is currently without a club.
