Cunning_Linguist
I have liked Nile Ranger since I saw him playing for Southampton under 18's (or whatever) and I think he can go a long way but IMO he needs to be Stronger. He won a couple of headers last night (when jonas was right behind him) and then everything else was pretty mediocre tbh. He has got an unusually small head as well which worries me. Guest toonlass
You can see with Ranger that he's always been the best kid in the team he's played in. He just doesn't seem to have the discipline or knowledge to go with his talent. He ran about like a headless chicken last night, like the kid on a school team who knows he's good and so tries to beat the opposition team all on his own. LucaAltieri
Similar player to Walcott and Lennon... loads of pace, a bit lightweight, not the best touch/delivery/composure. With time and coaching both Walcott and Lennon have come on massively and would both walk into our team. I think Ranger has more potential than either of those two as he has a natural eye for goal. Give the lad time. No wonder our record of developing talent is shit. You'd think after Andy Carroll (and Jose, and Colo, and Bassong, and N'Zogbia, and Milner, etc) people would learn to STFU and be patient.

AyeDubbleYoo
I don't see him as similar to Walcott and Lennon at all, he's a #9 target man if anything.

Likes the ball a his feet and running with it from what I've seen. He's reasonably tall at 6ft+ but haven't seen him use his height at all, really. Definitely doesn't put himself about enough. Glad we have a bit of sense and i know its all about opinions but as you say we write players off far too early here but while we are on it i will drink my own piss if Best is here at the end of next season. Revolution Number 9
To be fair though, we don't need a striker that may come good in a couple of years, we need one that can make an appreciable difference now and at the moment, Ranger sadly isn't it
Newcastle Fan
Give him a break, wasn't everyone here bashing Carroll a couple of years ago after the City game? he just needs to play more and get some experince, he was playing alongside Leon Best ffs. Dr.Spaceman
I think we saw with Carroll, who went from very average to very good in a short space of time that we need to give him a chance. He's still raw and has massive potential.

Pilko
He was quite poor but exactly how he was meant to do anything with the aimless punts up the pitch that we gave him is beyond me. Our midfield provided the sum total of absolutely zilch and it showed.
9
can hardly judge him on that game, everyone was hopeless especially 2nd half, to be fair he did win and knock down a few headers, thats the only positive i got last night, he really does need to take his chance in the next few games though as if you cant shine when your up V Best and Lovenkrands you never will. Doug
Unless we are going to play youth team players then like it or not hes better than lethargic Best or the slowed up Lovenkrands. He is the only one left with the pace and agility to get free of his marker and create a chance out of nothing. We better get used to that folks and start to get behind the lad because there is already a lot of pressure and expectation heaped on his young shoulders. I hope he can rise to the challenge and win the doubters over.
Weezertron
He got a shot on goal. More than can be said for most.
LucaAltieri
Nothing more than a gut feeling, but I reckon once he's put his first premier league goal away he'll suddenly get some self belief and start tearing it up.
Leazes1986
Can't believe people are so critical of him at his age and write him off. The fact is he's nowhere near ready yet and shouldnt be near the team. A year or two out on loan could be the making of him. He might turn out to be a good Premiership striker. He has potential but he's got to improve his attitude.
Guest
Think it's a cop out people blaming lack of service to him last night mind. Plenty of times the ball was fed up to him and the flick on was poor, his touch was off, his lay offs were misplaced, etc. Still at the stage of 'impact sub' for me, and thing we'd be better off with Nolan off Best or Lovenkrands and Best at the moment (Christ that's poor still). Flip
Christ, are you serious. You rather see Best on the field? I'd rather play Coloccini upfront than Leon 'Zidane' Best. Honestly, Loven by himself won't work. Play Ranger alone upfront with Nolan behind. Or just play without strikers.

I've been reading this post for an hour. What on earth have you been watching/drinking? Ranger has the ability/potential. He's shown it playing against boys (youth teams, reserves, and in the cup against Chelsea's kids), now he needs to make the step up to the men's game. Time will tell if he can manage it. I think he can. I also don't think he needs to move out on loan to do it, either. The main reason for sending a player out on loan is to give them game time. With our squad so thin there's no need for him to move to get game time. If we want him to become a premier league player he needs to be getting experience against premier league quality teams.
