STM
We aren't after Saviola, lazy journalism or maybe some form of smoke screen from the club... I don't believe you..... well actually i do but who are we after?
Baggio
HTT is just hedging his bets, he hasn't got a clue.
Cajun
HTT is just hedging his bets, he hasn't got a clue. Come on mate, what makes you think HTT is telling porkies? Its not like Keegan has recently mentioned a potential wow signing so someone could claim to know we are in for a big player but not mention who. Guest Howaythetoon
I know we won't be signing Saviola. He's a convenient rumour I suppose. He's Arge, he's a striker, he's not getting games at Madrid, Wise and co were apparently in Spain last week or whenever it was, we have done business with Real before, they trust us.... nah. Where would he play? He's too similar to Owen and Martins who are first-teamers with KK. I don't buy the creative role with Saviola either as that's Owen's role or will be when we buy a striker who can replace Viduka. I know KK, he will not sign a player who will pose a threat to Owen and Martins players he wants, rates and will put in his team, Saviola is too similar to those two. He's after a different kind of striker in my opinion.
Cajun
So its your opinion and you don't "know" we won't be signing him?

He's after a different kind of striker in my opinion. I'm not so sure of that. Keegan has always liked a creative, withdrawn striker who can link with the midfield - like Beardsley, or before him, Gavin Peacock. If you look at the players we've been linked with - Arshavin, Arda, Modric, Aimar, Saviola - they all fit that mould. I wouldn't describe either Owen or Martins as creative strikers. More like finishers. However, Keegan has always been very optimistic about how strikers can operate together, and not always got it right. At the time that Shearer signed, Keegan was wanting to play Shearer, Ferdinand, Aspilla and Beardsley in the same side.
TRon
I would say there's every chance of us signing Saviloa. So he's similar to Owen....that's the point. Owen could walk away after this season, and he doesn't play a whole load of games in any given season anyway. In my opinion Saviola and Owen could be quite tasty together in any case. Both are clever and quite capable of linking well in a passing team with one or the other dropping off as required.
Dave
I can't say I'm an expect on Saviola by any means, but other than their respective heights I don't see the similarity between him, Owen and Martins at all. All are strikers that rely on different assets of their game to score goals. Anyone care to explain?
Guest Heneage
I think its just that Dave its good to have a range of physicalities as strikers someone who could hold up.

I would agree that our squad could probably use a mobile target man first or foremost, but if forced to accept a world class smaller striker due to lack of quality target men I won't be too disappointed. Guest Heneage
I'd like a few more bullys in our team for games like Stoke and Bolton away.

Baggio
I'd prefer keegan to go with... .................Owen .......Saviola...Martins It would help address our biggest problem which is the gap between midfield and attack.

Opposition defenders would be absolutely terrified of the thought of such pace running at them. Owen excluded.
