James
Mike Ashley does not speak to the media. Derek Llambias does not speak to the media. David Williamson does not speak to the media. Dennis Wise does not speak to the media. Jeff Vetere does not speak to the media. Tony Jimenez does not speak to the media. When I say media, I mean through any kind of widely available source, ie the Official Site. Six owners/directors, and not one of them has bothered to open their mouths other to come up with anything other than some corporate bullshit, or some charity promotion. I am going to ignore Ashley's interview in the club magazine, as it is clear on here that the circulation of it was not good. The pressure to be the mouthpiece of the club was piled on KK, and it seems that he was only really allowed to speak for himself. Any statement from the club is faceless, we don't know who is talking, and who they are talking on behalf of. Chris Mort showed that you can speak to the fans without looking stupid and without giving too much away. It is about time some of our other directors followed his example. James
i'd rather they said nowt than talked "without giving too much away". Chris Mort was good at it. He gave a face to the day to day boardroom operations at SJP, and provided reassurance when needed. Now he's gone, we are left with a bunch of faceless mute cretins. Legacy
I agree, I think the new board has tried to keep Newcastle out of the spotlight but instead have gone too far and made things worse. Today being a prime example as a simple "Keegan hasn't left but discussions are on going" earlier in the day wouldn't of hurt rather than getting a "we haven't sacked Keegan after hours of waiting around with everyone's anger and frustration building up. You've forgotten the period between Allardyce and Keegan. Mort did a really good job as the link between club and fans.

Crumpy Gunt
Mike Ashley does not speak to the media. Derek Llambias does not speak to the media. David Williamson does not speak to the media. Dennis Wise does not speak to the media. Jeff Vetere does not speak to the media. Tony Jimenez does not speak to the media. Thats one chief for every Indian signed. Only way this Club can operate effectively is if there is no one between Ashley and the manager in the chain. Hopefully KK has told Ashley he'll take no interferance from anyone in between. BlueStar
There must be some middle ground between the kind of slack-lipped crap and spotlight hunting we often got from Freddy and hours and hours of letting shit run wild without a peep. chicago_shearer
The club's PR and communication efforts have been shockingly naive. The media are blood thirsty beasts, and they feed off instability at Newcastle. They can bring down governments, one mid-table football club is no problem at all. They WILL hurt you. It is a question of how you deal with that.

The College Dropout
The fans need the club to communicate better. Obviously something happened today, if the club came out straight away rebuking the claims we probably wouldn't have dozens of people outside the ground protesting. Makes the club look like an utter farce.
Guest optimistic nit
i'm not sure communicating could have stopped the riots, and i'm not sure the club would have been able to say anything concrete for the first 2 or so hours after it broke, but it took about 6 hours for anything to be said, about twice as long as it should've, and those 3 extra hours wern't nice. Beat me too it with this thread ,i think since Mort left it has been nothing short of a disaster in the p.r and communications dept we get hardly any news and i dont mean transfer activity but yesterday highlighted the breakdown with the media .Letting the crowds build up and the lack of information was fuel for the papers etc when it could have been put to bed earlier when a spokesperson could have put the flames out and said we will keep you informed with a statement but was left 9 hrs for any info and what was given out was left open to "is he gone or not "as it can be interpreted different ways by the wording . JH
At first I thought the new 'poker-face' to the media worked quite well, watching them scrape around looking for stories and shit to put us in. But the events of the last 24 hours have shown that we cannot continue to go on like this. It took the club near on 10 hours to release the statement and they have noone to blame other than themselves for the fan trouble outside. Sometimes, even if just through the Official site, you need to let people know what is going on before it gets out of control.
James
So then several days on, what do we have? The LMA pre-empting NUFC on all news. Terse official statements that serve the purpose of winding the fans up further than providing any reassurance or information. No acknowledgement of any attempts to reconcile with Keegan. No explanation of the events that have occured. No acknowledgement of the club's search for a new manager. No Hughton press conference. Derek Llambias not even bothered to produce some programme notes. PR at the club has hit an all-time low, and I wouldn't be suprised if the blackout extended to post match formalities tonight. The fans deserve an explanation. Even a foot-in-mouth Freddy Shepherd was better at PR. Due to his complete aloofness. Llambias' position at the club is now untenable in my mind, even if he was not at fault for KK's departure.
