i have spoken to dozens of people through work.

i have listened to the legends, 606, and read other sites. The majority of people i have spoken to, and the majority i have heard, were critical of Ashleys regime, and supportive of Kevin Keegan.

Anyone attending the 'Tilleys' march is asked to wear black... some are going in full funeral attire

Instead of a rabble it needs to look co-ordinated and organised

Black to represent feelings

RIP Dignity

RIP Integrity

Symbolic of the white stripes in the strip that represent hope being temporarily snatched from us

Thanks

Can't believe these protests are going ahead. What a farce.

Total distraction from the game tomorow and will overshadow our performance in all the papers on Sunday.

It's also going to do fuck all, Keegan won't get his job back and Ashley won't sell up.

I just wish we could avoid being all over SSN again looking like complete idiots.

No matter how dignified or sensible you try to make these protests look, everyone else in the country will be laughing their heads off at us. It's unavoidable.

That's not to mention the complete morons who will obviosuly take it too far after a morning's drinking.

It'll be hard trying to spot anyone who's taking it seriously tbh. The screen will be filled with delighted mongs waving and going 'WEYYY! I'M ON DA TELLLLYYYY!' whilst laughing and smiling.

Whilst the sentiment is fair enough, it'll just be impossible to make it look a reasonable protest.

Actually, talking to mates who support other clubs, I've found them in the main to be supportive of protest action and think it's good we're prepared to take a stand. Most football fans can empathise with the feeling of helplessness when you feel you're being shafted, and whether you agree with it or not, that's exactly how an awful lot of people are feeling.

Those taking the piss are basing it more on the fact that we've lost a decent manager just in time to fuck up yet another season and seem to have virtually zero chance of replacing him with anyone of even remotely comparable ability and experience.

I still don't exactly know what the protest would be about anyway to be honest.

Just to get Mike Ashley out, because Keegan resigned? I just don't think we've got enough reason for this reaction, that's what makes it difficult for me to support a protest. It needs to be more than just an outpouring of emotion.

I know a lot of people think differently obviously.

As I understand it, the consensus is that Keegan resigned because Mike Ashley and his associates misled him and utilised underhand tactics which made his position untenable - now there isn't conclusive proof for or against this, but what there is, is an enormous amount of respect and trust in KK, established over a number of years which in many people's eyes is obviously enough to earn him their unquestioning support. Respected observers such as SBR and Shearer publicly backing KK's position only serves to strengthen this feeling.

There is a very good chance a protest won't achieve anything obviously tangible, die down after a few weeks and Ashley et al will appoint a new man and get on with doing things their way, but even if this is the case, we will still I believe have witnessed some benefits:

- People will have expressed their grief over losing KK - sounds dramatic, but everything we're seeing backs up the strenght of feeling about this. A lot of this is possibly based on little more than nostalgia for a better time when we were genuine challengers, but these emotions undoubtedly exist. In a sense, people feel they "owe" it to KK to not let his leaving pass with a whimper.

- It will give at least some sense to those in charge that the fans' opinions cannot be disregarded, and even if you're determined to do it your way regardless you must respect their voice - I would expect to at the very least see changes/concessions in terms of communication/clarification of roles/spelling out strategy as a result.  Mike Ashley is new to this football lark, and if he cannot learn serious lessons from this episode he really has no chance of lasting longer-term.

ive been trying to get this exact point across for ages. What are people actually protesting about?

I suppose you've got a point Darth, even I wouldn't mind shouting at someone for Keegan leaving. I just don't think there is enough reason, or enough chance of it actually acheiving anything, for a protest to be worthwhile.

Now the initial flare-up of emotion has passed I believe that even more. I know I live away from Newcastle at the moment, and I'm not a season ticket holder, so maybe I'm not best placed to be criticising people, just expressing my opinion on the whole thing.

Keegan resigning and walking out on us (again) I think.

There again maybe it's about Directors of Football interfering with managers running of clubs e.g Dennis Wise interfering with Keegan's role, or possibly Keegan interfering with Ray Wilkins role in another club or something like that.

i've as much reason to believe that as i have that keegan knew what his job was and it didn't include complete control over transfers, then spat his dummy out when he didn't get his own way.

no real evidence of either, just his word against the board......not enough really.
