FA rescind Beye red card

He could have avoided all of this furore by simply running over to his linesman, who didn't give it, and asking his opinion. But no, the arrogant w***** gave the pen and sent Beye off  - thus changing the course of the game. He's in charge of the game and he carries the can for making the mistake.

He'll get no sympathy from me.

Nor me. If he still thinks he was right, and the FA have over-ruled him, then it's tough shit. Fuck him.

That's the way I feel about it, we all make mistakes but most of us admit to them and learn from them, he clearly hasn't.

Referee Rob Styles is on the brink of quitting the sport after a red card he gave to Newcastle's Habib Beye was overturned by the FA. Styles also apologised to Bolton earlier last month after incorrectly awarding a penalty to Manchester United in their 2-0 win. (Daily Mail)

He'd earn himself a whole lot more respect (and this goes for all referees as well) if he just held his hands up and said "now i've seen the video evidence i realised i made a mistake. My apologies to Newcastle, but at the end of the day we're only human". Job done, red card rescinded, no more said about it.

The fact that these morons continue to protest that it was a penalty, when the VIDEO EVIDENCE clearly shows it was a great tackle, just diminishes their credibility even further. In fact it's more likely to make us distrust them even more than we already do.

Respect the refs?! Respect has to be earned, prove you can do the job you're paid to do and you'll get all the respect in the world eg. Pierluigi Collina.

Styles on the brink of quitting after FA rescind red card for Beye

Controversial referee Rob Styles has been pushed to the brink of quitting as a Barclays Premier League referee after the FA on Thursday overturned Habib Beye's red card at St James' Park on Monday night.

The Newcastle defender was dismissed for a professional foul on Manchester City's Robinho and Styles, one of the League's most experienced officials, refused to rescind the red card despite a plea by Newcastle interim manager Joe Kinnear.

But Newcastle appealed to the FA disciplinary committee who backed the Newcastle full back and he is free to play in Saturday's derby at Sunderland.

A friend of Styles said: 'Not only is Rob a top referee but in order to officiate at the top you need a great deal of resolve. He has had good support from his family and friends and that is what is keeping him in the game at the moment.

'But nobody would be surprised if that situation was to change because despite his love for the game there is only so much he can take.'

Styles received hate mail as a result of the Robinho incident and a similar one at Old Trafford last month in which he wrongly awarded a penalty against Bolton and later apologised.

He will be the fourth official for Sunday's game between Chelsea and Liverpool and will not take charge of a top-flight match this weekend.

He was at a meeting of fellow referees in Warwick on Tuesday after rejecting Kinnear's appeal and he was given the support of other officials who said they would have made the same call. However, his management and decision-making in the match was criticised by the assessor.

Although Styles finds himself in emotional turmoil after the FA's decision, it has delighted Kinnear. The Newcastle manager, who confirmed captain Michael Owen is out of the 140th Tyne-Wear derby with a groin strain, said: 'That is one problem out of the way. That is fantastic news. I would have thought that is a victory for common sense and that is what I said to the referee.

'I did not lose my head with him. I said: "You will be surprised when you see the replay." One thing I thought at the time was that he was in a horrible position to call it as he did. Freeze the frame and he has two players in his view and he is craning his neck from behind to see it.

'There were two issues. The tackle, which was made just outside the box and carried into the box, and it was a long way to make the call a penalty.'

Beye said: 'It was a bad decision but I can understand because he is human and when you are human you make mistakes. I got the ball and I could not believe it when he gave the penalty and the red card. You know as a defender when you have made the tackle and when I made that tackle I was 100 per cent confident I got the ball.

'I am glad I can play against Sunderland because games like this are why you are a footballer.'

Good, if I was bad at my job I would get sacked.  I would not even have the choice of resigning.

There has to be an element of culpability in any profession.

I'm sure if he had just admitted he had made a mistake instead of standing by the decision that this whole thing could have been avoided. Now he's embarassed himself further, haven't really got any sympathy for him.

Brilliant referee. Last I saw of him he got injured in that charity football match, he looked in agony.

Mark Hughes mouthing off saying it shouldn't have been rescinded and still thinks it was a peno.

Bitter much cause his team of 'stars' couldn't beat 10 men.  Prick.

Should be more pissed off that his star player went missing for the majority of the game.

WTF is hughes on about, he still got the pen and the goal. What difference does it make to him that Beye can play against the mackems ? Oh yeah thats right Hughes is a tosser.

We stole the 2 points the ref gifted him, he's bound to be pissed off.

Mark Hughes is a moaning cunt! It's not a crime to admit the ref got something that went in your favour wrong but the way manager's go on you fucking wonder.

They all fucking do it - i didn't see it, it was definitiely a penalty, it wasn't a dive, the ball was over the line, he should've been sent off, it wasn't malicious. What a bunch of devious dishonest wankers!

The decision to rescind it has precisely fuck all to do with Hughes and he should shut his mouth. He should be pointing fingers at his own players who couldn't beat us despite being given a goal start and a man advantage for 80 mins.

Wanker.

That Daily Mail article reads like we are supposed to feel sorry for Styles, it's funny that Beye's ruiling was overturned by those mean people at the FA, while the Manure one was "wrongly awarded".

Got no sympathy at all for the guy, nor should we, it's not about the personailities it's about the incident and a terrific challenge like that should not be rewarded with a penalty against you, a sending off forcing you to play with 10 men for almost 80 mins and a suspension. Nothing the FA can do about the first two but I'm glad they had the balls to do something about the suspension.

And Mark Hughes can f*** right off, TBH, I hated him as a player, Like him as a manager but his comments post game about how the sending off helped us and this further comment are making me loath the guy once again.

Wish some of our star players would go missing like Robinho did on Monday. Got his side the penalty and made the assist.

How noble of him to have to cheat disgracefully against a struggling team and then decide to actually do something with 5 minutes to go against ten men.  No wonder he wanted out of Real Madrid - They have expectations. :joker:

Oh well fair enough yeah, he drifted out of the game when we were on top, but he was still productive.

Obviously Styles should go but this is another indication of how poorly run the FA is if they push him out over this..  His performances over the years should have seen him eliminated years ago as a Premiership referee, but of course the FA is only prepared to respond when there's a massive media uproar.

Shame he's receiving hate letters though, nobody should have to go through that.
