Given the discovery that the Carroll money can not be included on the accounts submitted to UEFA to be allowed into Europe (therefore meaning that spending the £35m incurs a loss that could see us banned from Europe) does this make the decision to sell Carroll even worse? Llambias should be sacked for that amongst many other things.

Lets qualify for Europe first, eh?

Sounds like a plan like.

“Andy is one of the most misunderstood people I know. You couldn’t meet a nicer lad. I’m like his older brother and at times he can be a right pain in the backside.

“But believe me he is a top player and despite all this talk about the fee involved, Andy will prove his worth to both Liverpool and England.

“For a young lad he’s been through an awful lot and come out the other side. It just annoys me that people still seem intent on writing rubbish about him.

“He likes the occasional drink, but show me a footballer who doesn’t when it’s appropriate to do so.

“Since he moved to Liverpool under Kenny Dalglish he’s behaved like a saint.

“If anything it’s his enthusiasm and desire to play that gets him into trouble. Andy didn’t go to Liverpool to sit on the bench. So when he’s injured he’s too eager to play when he’s not fully fit.

“He’s the first person to hold his hands up if he’s done something wrong, but he’s settled down with a new girl. Things couldn’t be going better for him.”

England v Wales: Fabio Capello tells Andy Carroll to curb his drinking so that he can become a top player

England manager Fabio Capello has told Liverpool striker Andy Carroll to drink less if he wants to hold down a regular place on the international scene.

Back in March Carroll appeared to be Capello's golden boy, marking his second cap with his first senior goal against Ghana at Wembley.

Since then though, the Gateshead-born frontman's career seems to have stalled.

He missed the subsequent Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland - and the European Under-21 Championships - due to injury, and during the summer he was pictured partying on holiday in Barbados.

However, despite not even finding a place for the Liverpool striker among his substitutes in Bulgaria on Friday, Capello's warning was of a general variety rather than isolating specifics.

"I think if he wants to be a good player, a good sportsman, he needs to drink less," Capello said.

The Italian said he had spoken to Carroll but declined to give details of his advice.

"It's a private message. I spoke with him. It's a private discussion between two people but he understands a lot. He's young, we need to help him. He's a really important player.

"He needs to be careful, because he's an important player not only for the England team but for Liverpool. I think he understands what he needs to do."

It would be a major surprise if Carroll was in contention for a starting berth in tomorrow's encounter with Wales at Wembley, purely on the basis of how well England's attack performed in Sofia on Friday.

Yet Capello is considering changes for what he hopes will be his last competitive game at Wembley as England manager.

In dismissing the theory that he might drop either Gareth Barry or Scott Parker, who are both a booking away from being suspended for the final game in Montenegro on October 7, Capello highlighted the difficulties his side encounter at Wembley.

A run of three draws and a defeat from their last four outings at the national stadium is their worst for almost three decades and with the pace of Gareth Bale at their disposal, Capello is anticipating Wales adopting safety-first tactics.

"It is possible I will change the style," Capello said. "I don't think about yellow cards and whether some players will miss the next game. It is step-by-step and tomorrow will be a tough game.

"I watched the game they played against Montenegro. They played really well on the counter-attack and Bale is back on top form.

"After his injury he only played at 80 per cent of his capacity. Now he is really good.

"He is a really important player. He is so fast. It is difficult to stop him. We need to prepare something."

Needs a kick up the arse tbh.

Definitely. Like someone said in the England thread, looks as if no one is there to actually look after him and make sure he's in the right mind set, ie. he really needs someone like Nolan.

Sad that someone on untold thousands of pounds per week can't muster the strength of will not to flush it down the drain at every opportuntiy without a support network of fellow millionaires there to keep him from doing so.

His 'drink problem' is just an excuse to cover for the lack of talent. Liverpool have overpaid and England once again overhyped, it really is that simple. Instead of admitting this they can lay the blame at his feet for liking his drink, something which hasn't changed since he's been here and he did alright for us. In fact if i were a betting man i'd bet he's drinking a lot less there than he was here, but still, its a nice easy escape route for everyone and even if he never touched alcohol again, lived like a nun, trained and worked like a mule, he'll never fill his £35m price tag and that will be the Carroll story.

He made the wrong move for the wrong reasons, but as time goes on my negative feelings die down and I just feel sorry for him, he could have been a local legend here, loved by every one of us till the day he dies, not many players get that at any club nevermind the club you grew up supporting as a kid.

When he gets time on the pitch you can see how hard he's trying, but it's actually a bit of a problem - because he seems so desperate to impress that he's snatching at his chances. Too much, too young IMO.

Add that in to his detrimental effect on his own team's defenders (ie - giving them justification to lump it long) and well,... long may it continue. :D

I think he misses life here honesty.  He was forced out. Id cheer him were it not for the fact that should he fail there, its more likely he will come back home.
