COLIN Calderwood has officially joined Newcastle United's coaching staff – as first revealed in the Evening Post last week.

The Scot has linked up with fellow former Nottingham Forest manager Joe Kinnear at St James' Park.

Calderwood may combine the role with a part-time position as head coach of the Faroe Islands.

The Faroe Islands Football Association claim Calderwood has agreed to take on the job ahead of a friendly against Iceland in March.

The former Mansfield, Swindon, Spurs, Aston Villa, Forest and Notts County centre-half will be a specialist defensive coach.

Kinnear said: "We have Colin Calderwood on board now, and he will be joining us until the end of the season to bring something else to our backroom team."

It is understood Calderwood held initial talks over the role early last week but played down reports that he was set to join the Premiership club until the deal was agreed.

;D Not sure which defence needs the most work on...

I'm from the faroe islands, so I think it's great that our manager in the national team is also a coach in NUfC  You can say he's a manager (coach) who likes challanges...

The one thing I remember about this prick is him shouting foul mouthed abuse at Newcastle fans during a Tittenhum v Hewcastle game at Wipe Fart Lane in the 70s - for NO reason that I can recall, other than we had drowned out their home fans.

But if he can improve our sieve defence, I'll think about excusing him

THINK about it

I don't get it. Are people suddenly crying out for Kinnear, Calderwood and Lovenkrands to be signed up on long term contracts?

No, I'm just expecting our dear owner's actions to match his words.

"The club is off the market, I'm in it for the long term now" is one thing, offering 6 month contracts to people is another.

But we don't know what is happening with Kinnear yet so it would make no sense with him being on a contract until the end of the season to offer a coach he's bringing in a 3 year deal.

Well why did he give Ameobi a three-year deal then?

I doubt it was JFK decision, I would imagine the ED(F) sorted that out & from the club points of view Viduka & Owen are deffo going, Xisco is out asap, Oba does not seem happy, Smith could go in the summer, they needed some fucker to stay.

He would have been about 6 at the time, he started playing for Spurs in 1993.  Calderwood turned down a significant pay rise from Spurs to leave to go to Northampton Town.  He was rated to be an exceptionally talented coach, somewhat higher than his perceived ability as a manager.

Nice to see we have a coach who is as much of a lying cunt as the manager.

Lying cunt? :jesuswept:

If you are referring to him denying that he was our new coach, before contracts were signed presumably, seems pretty fucking sensible and standard to me.

"At first the tackle looked really strong – he went into the challenge very, very quickly. We tried to get a quick look at the replay, but there was no replay coming up on the camera in the tunnel.

"But I wouldn’t want to take that type of challenge out of our football. The consequences of the challenge are horrible but there was a certain amount of misfortune in that Hatem’s legs were attached to the ground a little bit and the force with which de Jong hit him definitely moved the leg." - Colin Calderwood.
