Charles N'Zogbia joins Wigan Athletic for fee believed to be £6.5m

Recommended Posts

This will have been the third talented French winger who has been shipped out, or forced out, (unreasonably imo) by a manager who didn't like them because they preferred grafters. Dalglish with Ginola, Souness with Robert, and now Kinnear with N'Zogbia. And in the first two cases, the team suffered badly after the respective players were sold (Ginola went on to be the domestic Player of the Year, and iirc he was the main reason for Spurs winning the Carling Cup in 99 to boot). Wouldn't be suprised if this turns out to be the hat-trick in the s*** sales of talented French wingers.

N'zogbia not in the same class asGinola, or Robert.

He is more like  Olivier Bernard, (he thinks he is a better player than he really is)

roffles from nufc.com

JJB-elittled:

Do I love you?

Indeed I don't

Newcastle, Arsenal, Tottenham, Villa, Lyon? Just five

clubs Charles N'Zogbia apparently won't be playing for, with strong claims on Friday that he's off to Wigan.

Yes, Wigan.  :kinnear:

Let's just remind ourselves of Prince Bluster's recent comments:

"After four years at Newcastle, I want to reach a higher level of ambition. I don't think that is possible here."

And:

"My agents are talking with Tottenham and Aston Villa - I'm waiting to see what will happen. From what they have told me, Arsenal could also be in the frame, but there hasn't been a direct approach from them.

"Personally, I have a little preference for the Gunners but, whatever happens, they are three great and ambitious clubs. It's very flattering to see them interested in me."

And:

"As soon as a big club knocks on the door with a good offer, I don't think they'll prevent me leaving."

And:

"I am 22, it's an age where I have to be seen, especially with regards to aims that I have targeted for myself.

"I want to get into the France team as soon as possible and I feel that at Newcastle, that won't be possible."

The JJB may be a Theatre of Dreams for egg-chasers, but as far as the round ball game goes, the home side should be Tumbleweed City - at least as far as attendances go.

Even the visit of Liverpool last week didn't test the JJB's 25,135 capacity, with 21,237 in (52,114 at SJP for the equivalent game.) And a grand total of 15,881 turned out when Stoke rolled up in November (47,422 on Tyneside).

Big club, mon derriere - and if he fancies having a bit of rough and tumble in training, there's always Titus in the blue corner...

PS: There used to be a big club in Wigan - it was called The Casino. Famed for its all-nighters, it was a magnet for insomniacs - does Charlie know it's been knocked down?

Bernard was a very good left-back until Souness convinced him that he wasn't

Ginola took the huff long before Dalglish arrived - Keegan never forgave him for trying to engineer a move to Barcelona in the summer of 96.

I've not said that N'Zogbia is as good today as Ginola or Robert were for us at their respective peaks. I've said he's talented, which is what he undoubtedly is. IMO he's our best left wing option (with Jonas on the right), because out of all the players we have available for the left wing, he's by far the most likely to score, put in a peach of a delivery, or create a half chance out of nothing using his natural dribbling ability. Speaking his mind off the pitch, no matter how inappropriate, or even being a total cunt, should not result in his talent on the pitch being forgotten or ignored.

Maybe we'll improve straight away without him, but my basic point was that we seem to have a bit of a long-running management problem where we're continually appointing managers who neither realise the talent they have at their disposal, nor have the managerial skills required to handle talented footballers who may happen to have flawed personalities. As a result, we're seeing these flawed but talented individuals being pushed to the edge of reason, the fans turning on them once the outburst occurs with the player becoming a talentless gimp overnight, the player gets shipped out, and inevitably the team suffers or the player goes on to be a big hit for someone else when it could so easily have been us. Hence, my fear is that N'Zogbia is going to fall into the latter category purely because our manager never gave him a chance from day one.

Well, fair enough if that's the case, although that's suprising given how Ginola iirc was a regular starter under Keegan o 06-07 and seemed to have a good relationship with him.

My recollection of events was that Ginola was dropped by Dalglish after Dalglish had moaned about his tracking back and then switched to a 4-3-3 whilst benching Ginola. I'm pretty certain the fallout occurred between Ginola and Dalglish, although again, fair enough if I'm wrong.

Charlie will spend less than a season at Wigan.  Bruce will have him playing really well and a bigger club will come knocking very soon.

Would I love him to fail? Yes.

Will he? Nope.

He's stepping out of line to get to the front.

The thing is, we are not a classy club anymore, we've gone down in quality a lot since the F*CK Souness disastrous appointment. N'Zogbia is a classy player, fast, dribbles and at his best position he can get you goals.

We are becoming more like a TRUE mid table team with grafters only, a place for the Alan Smiths, Kevin Nolans and Ryan Taylors...

Sad how we are losing classy flair players and replacing them with grafters...

Aye, go on worshiping the worthless want-away c*** who's got four goals in the last three years to his name.

Makes me sick this kind of attitude. Slobbering over a player who shouldn't even be in our first team "oooh he's too good for us, he'll move to a big club."

Just f*** off.

A bit of selective amnesia there. What happened to N'Zogbia's incessant crying to the press about wanting to leave? Classy is not the word I'd use for him. He's been angling for a move away since he got into the team. He may be a pretty good talent, but his attitude stinks and we're better off rid of him...

Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, a mid-table side would be a massive improvement at this point...

How likely is it that Taylor will play on Sunday? Times running out i guess.

Why are Wigan willing to let him go? Thought he was one of their better players?

I always thought that Ryan Taylor was a  reserve at Wigan and an injury prone one at that!

(I could be wrong like!)

I don't care. £6 million is good enough for a moaning f***  Ryan Taylor just sweetens the deal even more.

I think we might sign Veloso before the end of the shop, look we sell Zogbia for £6million, we had a budget of around 8-10 from the beginning. We then sell Given for around the £8 million mark.

We then have around £18-20 million to buy for left. We make a £14 million bid for Veloso, and then try to get in a goalie at a cheap, a back-up for Harper. Because i'd rather see Krul, Forster and Söderberg on loan than on the bench at the moment. We might actually surprise in this window.

I would love to think that you are right about Veloso but knowing Ashley & Kinnear ,  the suprise signing that you are hoping for will probably be Kris Commons or Joel Porter.

You are dreaming if you think Ashley will spend 18 million quid no matter how much he rakes in for Shay and Charlie .

Would love to believe it, but reality check this is NUFC after all.

if it were that simple i'd be looking at another central midfielder and a forward rather than putting all the remaining money into veloso.

We are selling a left winger, and getting a right back.... Now we will be short of wingers.

Ryan can play right back and as a winger on both flanks.

Thats why i believe we will only sign Veloso. Wow, i've woken up with biggest headache and everything have turned into yet an exciting life of a Newcastle fan, glad to see Ryan Taylor signing, what's up with our club. 5 years ago we were one of the best teams in this country, now we're almost bottom of the league, and we're all excited about signing players who realistically should never have been near our squad.

Where is this  club going?

I don't understand those who are upset at N'Zogbia's departure. So what if he's talented? Mark Viduka has probably got more talent in his little toe and it counts for nothing either because the pair of them have a heart the size of a pea.

understand the point but we in serious danger of becoming a slow team with very little skill, that is not a good combination
