The most exciting aspect of the club at the moment is the efforts going into building the quality of our academy

It needs to be. Needs massive time and investment if we’re going to compete at the top for years to come. Easily as important as signing a £70m CB.

Forward Amadou Diallo has joined French outfit FC Girondins de Bordeaux on a permanent basis from Newcastle United.

The 21-year-old winger, who hails from Canning Town, joined the Magpies in October 2022 following an impressive trial before making his Premier League debut for Eddie Howe's in a 4-1 win against Chelsea at St. James' Park in November 2023.

Diallo, who began his career in West Ham United's youth ranks, gained his first senior start during Newcastle's A-Leagues All Stars Mens' game against the A-League All Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in May 2024.

Following the expiration of his contract at St. James' Park, Diallo moves to Bordeaux, who now compete in the Championnat National 2, the fourth tier of French football, following the club's administrative double relegation at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Everybody at the club would like to wish Amadou the best of luck for the future.

Under 18’s 3-0 down to Man U at HT.

Kai Rooney playing for their under 16’s against ours today too.

Dummett wandering around in NUFC training gear. Be surprised if he doesn’t end up on the coaching staff at some point soon.

The Premier League and the National League have today launched a new competition for first teams of National League clubs and Premier League 2 sides.

The National League Cup is designed to give young players from Premier League and EFL clubs additional opportunities to test themselves against senior opposition, with the aim of further aiding elite player development.

The competition, which begins in October, also offers an opportunity for National League clubs to play regular matches against the best under-21 teams in England at their own stadia, with this additional exposure intended to improve the playing and spectator experience. National League clubs will also keep all gate receipts from these fixtures.

The National League Cup is a 32-team midweek competition, comprising of 16 under-21 teams participating in Premier League 2, and 16 first-teams from clubs participating in the National League.

The competition will consist of a group stage (four groups of eight), with the two best-placed teams in each group advancing to a knock-out stage to determine the winner.

Newcastle United Under-21s have been drawn in Group C alongside Sunderland Under-21s, Middlesbrough Under-21s and Leeds United Under-21s as well as Halifax Town, Tamworth, Boston United and Gateshead.

Fixture dates and kick-off times will be confirmed on newcastleunited.com in due course.

Competition round dates:

Group stage match round 1: 1 – 2 October 2024

Group stage match round 2: 5 - 6 November 2024

Group stage match round 3: 3 – 4 December 2024

Group stage match round 4: 21 – 22 January 2025

Quarter-finals: 5 – 6 February 2025

Semi-finals: 11 – 12 March 2025

Final: 1 – 2 April 2025

Two good wins for the u21’s and u18’s respectively over the last few days. First game, first win for O’Carroll. Mason Miley stepping up to the 18’s. Plays same position as his brother. Think we’re on for a Miley dynasty lads, there’s loads of them. Also when one Ndiweni leaves, another arrives!

What an appointment this O’Carroll fella is. 3 wins out of 3. Beat a Villa team with Kamara and Mings in it, although of course they will be way short of fitness.

It‘s so difficult to judge at U21 level though. Like, last year we were incredible in PL2 but now all those guys are either on loan or in the first team squad and our U21 team is shite. So much depends upon timing although presumably he is doing a good job.

True, but a great sign that he's come in and had an immediate impact. That age group for NUFC is still woefully short on talent and development of talent is priority one for everything below the first team, but establishing a winning culture at all ages is not a bad thing.
