The lads are being out pressed, because they’re lads playing against men.

Fucks sake the way you’ve just characterised us is as prime Stoke, since Dan Burn and Schar was brought back in were more than happy to recycle the ball at the back if need be

When did I say that? they are getting outplayed but our style of football is not helping.

Not going to pretend to know all about Huddersfield and if someone has is just coming back from injury, being eased in but would normally be a starter, had a 3 match suspension etc. but from the 6 league games, this is the amount of league games the XI has played from 6 available:

0+1

2+4

2+0

3+0

1+5

5+0

5+1

0+2

3+2

1+3

0+0

5 players who have started all 6 league matches aren't in the XI and probably only 3 who you would consider a regular. The odds were around 10/1, so always massive outsiders and clearly not supposed to be a competitive match, but, on the other hand, some of these are 20+. There was hopes for Heffernan, MacArthur, people talk about Alfie Harrison, Park obviously very new to a new lifestyle and culture, but seems talented, mixed thoughts on here, but some were saying Neave looks promising. Likewise Pivas seemed like a decent coup when signed. That's 6 out of 10 players and you'd hope, individually, that some of those could get a loan to League One tomorrow and be a decent enough player, especially when you see lots of 18 (or 15, 16, 17) year olds getting good minutes in the Premier League. I guess the lesser known Thompsons, Baileys, Harper and Charlton could be a long way off, and thus making it a lot tougher, but as a collective, they do seem a long way off.

It feels like we’re making some progress on the academy (i.e. overall standards seems to have improved in past couple of years) but it’s probably a decade-long job to build a genuine top level academy. if you’re looking at who is going to make it, you are probably better looking at players like Cordero and Sanusi who are out on loan in senior football than watching tonight (especially given, as others have said, it’s also the international break so we are missing the likes of Shahar too).

On that note Cordero was an unused sub at the weekend.

We'll have an idea if he's any good by the end of the season, but in the meantime I wouldn't get too focused on individual games in August. Yankuba Minteh started 1 of his first five games at Feyenoord - two seasons later he's probably an £80m winger. Time will tell if there is a player in Cordero!

RyDOG claiming that Groningen have an option to make the loan for Hernes permanent.

I think it was the Athletic who reported they have an option to make it permanent, but that option contains a buy back clause.

Good in relation to the rest of our youngsters or was he actually good in the sense that we could have used him this season?

Given our failure to adopt it for Dan Burn, I was looking forward to wheeling out “Hernes baby Hernes, midfield inferno”. Another dream dies…

Can we please just go hire Neil Bath and Jim Fraser now?

Easy to get wound up by this but the way the ranking is calculated it largely reflects what the academy looked like in the very earliest days post-takeover - i.e. the reason we have comparably fewer players breaking through in any level of football last season is because the academy had very limited talent 3/4 years ago. Looking at what we have now youth levels now I'd be pretty confident we'll be moving up in the rankings in the next few seasons - in the next year or so we'll probably see the likes of Neave, Shahar et al. begin moving out on loan (plus Hernes, Sanusi, Cordero, White all out loan currently).

Such a win for the club if they can get this right. It will hugely move the needle for us. Of all the areas, this alongside commercial income are where Ashley fucked NUFC the hardest.

Biggest case of speculate to accumulate in football. Ashley gave up millions because he wouldn't spend thousands.

Biggest mystery to me and actually wondered why he didn’t click on with the Carroll sale. Maybe he thought because we sold him for £35m with a shit academy we could carry on doing it.

Build a moderately priced production system to develop low cost raw materials into high margin products.

Instead he bought the cheapest priced production system he could get and it wasn’t good enough to produce high sale money spinners for the club.

Same thing with France and transfers. Did well one year and just sat back on his laurels.

Genuinely surprised that Villa are so low.
