The Georgian coach was responsible for ending the Athens-based club's UEFA Champions League dreams last season during his time with Anorthosis Famagusta. Ketsbaia led the unfancied Cypriot outfit into the knockout stages of Europe's premier club competition, the first time a club from that country had reached such a level. He claimed a comfortable 3-1 aggregate success over Olympiakos in the third qualifying round of that tournament, but was unable to lead Famagusta into the knockout stages. They did manage to claim an historic victory over another Greek side, Panathinaikos, during their European adventure, but finished bottom of their group and missed out on a Uefa Cup place as a result. Ketsbaia then stood down from his post in April following the resignation of the club's popular president. He has made a swift return to management, though, and will be replacing the outgoing Ernesto Valverde at Olympiakos. The 41-year-old Georgian signed a three-year contract on May 25 but leaves the Pireaus club following a 2-0 away victory over Larissa and a goalless home draw with Kavala. "Olympiakos announces the mutual solution of its collaboration with coach Temuri Ketsbaia," the club announced via a statement on its official website. "The technical leadership of team will be temporarily undertaken by Bozidar Bandovic. His assistant will be Andreas Niniadis." The move is a surprise one given that it comes on the eve of the team's opening Champions League Group H match against Dutch champions AZ Alkmaar. Ketsbaia, a former midfielder, replaced Spanish coach Ernesto Valverde after becoming the first man to lead Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta into the group stages of the Champions League last season. Despite guiding Olympiakos safely through the Champions League qualification rounds, Ketsbaia was criticised by fans and the media for a 5-0 friendly loss to Erogtelis and following Saturday's 0-0 draw with newly promoted Kavala. Always rated him when he was here, only just turned 30, and provided a sh*tload for Shearer during the 99-00 season. The 26 year old Portuguese International would cost around £6 million and that would be enough to tempt the cash strapped Catalan giants. Gullit is also very keen to bring Ronald de Boer to St James Park as Ajax are preparing to let both de Boer brothers go next season it is unclear as to how much he would cost but as they both signed 5 year deals at the start of the season Ajax will probably ask for a large sum fo the 28 year olds. Mags chase Domi Newcastle boss Ruud Gullit is looking to make French under 21 star Didier Domi his second signing for Newcastle. The 20 year old wing back has lost his place in the Paris St Germain team this season and french sports paper L'Equipe has said that Newcastle are ready with a £3 million bid. At the end of the 2003/04 season, the club was 73.8 million euros down. So I'm guessing in the years leading up to that the debts were high also.
