ponsaelius
Can anybody really say that Milner and Parker have looked any better than they did for us in 06/07? They're exactly the same players.

Keefaz
Carroll is one of the few players who seemed to have confidence in his own ability. He knows he's got at what he does (target man stuff, holding the ball) and did his job really well. Fuck knows what Rooney's problem is. Unbelievably shit in the past two tournaments. Dave
Early indications - peak audience of 23m for England v Italy. 77.4% of the TV viewing population at the time.

It's those Nike adverts. Guaranteed to be shite after that kind of fate-tempting. It's weird. I mean, his touch is absolutely awful. Passing: awful. If you went purely by his performances in the World Cup and the Euros, you would imagine him to be some clogger from the bottom of the table.
ponsaelius
Carroll completed more passes last night than Gerrard by the way. He came on in the 60th minute. Fuck. Me.
Mr. Snrub
Rooney can't take the game to decent opposition on his own and drive a team on the way other top players can. After all the hype of bringing him in the squad he should be embarrassed with how he played. When he had the ball it was more expected that he'd fuck things up than do something exciting/productive. Not an attitude people generally have with world class players.
The College Dropout
Milner played because Hodgson knows Johnson can't defend IMO. Bullshit.
AyeDubbleYoo
Milner played because Hodgson knows Johnson can't defend IMO. Bullshit. I thought that was pretty much the accepted opinion as well TBH. Would be interested to hear a multi-word argument from you like.
AyeDubbleYoo
Fair play to Carroll BTW, looked a player in this tournament.
Dave
Actually Milner played for his crossing ability.

The College Dropout
Why is Johnson getting flack? Milner was terrible. Parker's never been an international player. Young terrible. Rooney terrible.
Minhosa
Fair play to Carroll BTW, looked a player in this tournament. Aye. Will be interesting to see what Rodgers does with him this year.
Hughesy
Probably going to be pilloried for this, but I actually thought Milner played reasonably well yesterday. Would have taken Young off (regardless of penalty miss) way before Milner. Not quite sure why no-one seemed to pick up on how dreadful Terry was. Embarrassing to watch him at times. Mr. Snrub
Fair play to Carroll BTW, looked a player in this tournament. Should have started last night instead of Welbeck who has looked horribly out of his depth.
AyeDubbleYoo
Pretty much the crux of it there. If you have a fairly average squad they all need to perform near the top of their game - a squad like England's can't afford to have 4 players who could be described as 'terrible'. loki679
Not convinced that Rooney plays best off the striker. For me he should be the 'number 9', even for Man Utd he's more effective pushed right up on the opposition's defence.

Was that a 'everyone on this forum said Terry was awful' or 'he played really great'? I was more referring to tv pundits rather than here. Wasn't on forum last night so don't know what people said. I thought that was pretty much the accepted opinion as well TBH. Would be interested to hear a multi-word argument from you like. Can you honestly say Johnson was a weakness in the defence? He's a decent defender. The idea of playing Johnson is to force the opposition fullback and winger into doing some defending. He rarely got forward so Hodgson clearly trusts his defence work. Poor positionally sometimes when keeping the offside line but individually, being run at, defending crosses etc. no sorry he was pretty decent. Milner played because Hodgson wanted to play a defensive and narrow midfield. Milner spent most of the game close to De Rossi who is a central midfielder.
