Guest BooBoo
Pirlo tickling that pen in man. Christ.
ponsaelius
More impressed with the way he took the piss out of us for 120 minutes.
Village Idiot
Probably Giggs since I can't be arsed to check all the backpages, but Pirlo's pen man... so Legend. In all honesty, Italy was by far the better side and deserved to go through. Writing's on the wall since that match-fixing scandal, though, they are going to win the whole thing. juniatmoko
Italy was far better side than England but they still aren't clinical yet & so many miss places pass also. I don't think they can survive Germany.

Ronaldo
Don't think Italy were that great, they were just far better than that rubbish. It's a tragedy if Parker and Milner ever start for England again.

Dave
Milner played because Hodgson knows Johnson can't defend IMO.
ponsaelius
Can't believe the praise Parker gets and will never, ever get it. He's embarrassing if you ask me.
Dave
Can't believe the praise Parker gets and will never, ever get it. He's embarrassing if you ask me. Thought he was decent first half last night. After that I can't really remember seeing him, same as Gerrard.
Ronaldo
In the last 16 years only once has an England striker scored more than 2 goals in a tournament - Rooney, 04. Still think that's a dreadful stat when you consider that we've generally played 2 forwards with a strong midfield behind them.
Guest Roger Kint
Milner played because Hodgson knows Johnson can't defend IMO. Rather he picked Jones or even that Kelly kid than waste a shirt on Milner to cover a shit player at RB
Ronaldo
Can't believe the praise Parker gets and will never, ever get it. He's embarrassing if you ask me. He's effective in the Premier League but is completely obsolete at last night's level because of both the quality of the opposition and the tempo of the game. I only think he's effective in the league up to a certain level anyway. Didn't pull up trees here, relegated bottom with West Ham, flounced at Chelsea. Fair enough he's been effective at Spurs but only because he does the dogwork for somebody like Modric alongside him. So limited its unreal.
TheGuv
Milner played because Hodgson knows Johnson can't defend IMO. AyeDubbleYoo
Think that's slightly harsh on Parker TBH. I don't love him as a player but the problem was that every time we won the ball back we gave it away within seconds. The whole team was at fault for that. No way he could have been as poor as Johnson was 95% of the time there

I don't love him as a player but the problem was that every time we won the ball back we gave it away within seconds. The whole team was at fault for that. He's a massive part of the reason we consistently give it away. He's terrible on the ball and far too limited a passer. Not the only one but he plays the most crucial role on the pitch. AyeDubbleYoo
The funny thing is that we're actually capable of picking players who can keep possession. A midfield of Wilshere and Carrick is a completely different style to Gerrard and Parker. I'm not sure we should entirely move to a Italian/Spanish style passing game, but it's just not feasible to play with such physical energy for the whole of an international tournament. You have to look after the ball. Strangely we looked OK at the start of the game, I think Parker and Gerrard both being knackered also played a big part. In the other games I don't think he's wasted possession that much at all. Certainly less than Johnson and Young, for example. We do need a midfield metronome though, I agree with that. I would have definitely had Carrick in my squad.

You have to look after the ball. Yep, England don't need to change their game to a Spanish style - but being able to string a couple of passes between themselves is fundamental. Countless times that the ball was launched in the hope that one of the forwards could hold onto it. Supposedly the best pass sequence for England was Hart to Carroll and he was only on for about 30 mins.
