Agent: No toon exodus until embargo is lifted

Newcastle United are not allowing any member of their squad to leave St.James' Park until the future of the club and management is concluded. Speaking exclusively to Sport.co.uk, Alex Black, the agent of Toon forward Alan Smith, revealed there is an embargo on transfer dealings at the North East giants until the crisis at the boardroom level is resolved.

Speaking to Sport.co.uk Editor Nigel Brown, Black said:

“Nothing has changed at this moment in time regarding Alan Smith. It is exactly as it was. To be honest there is no point even worrying about it. Newcastle United have put a sort of embargo on any players moving in or out of the club until the situation is resolved in terms of ownership.

“So, what can you do until that is sorted out? There is no point worrying about it as it is in Newcastle's hands.”

Alan Smith has been previously linked with Stoke City, Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers this summer.

Not sure whether this is positive news or not tbh.

Positive, it lets the new manager make his choices(or influence certain members of the team) and also if all else fails that squad would do well in the championship.

Debatable, but even so - we can't possibly afford to keep them. So the longer things drag on and the more desperate we get to be rid of them, the less we'll be able to ask for them. Creates even more problems for the new owners.

We keep coming back to the same fucking thing; time is of the essence.

Confirms what we thought really. I 'm glad they are not letting anyone go since we could be in a even deeper hole if we have to scramble around at the eleventh hour to fill up the squad. But at the same time, we are missing out on potential signings and the pool of players we would be interested in is getting smaller and smaller.

Good news imo.  if there was any chance of Ashley staying on he would be looking to get people out.  by the same token if the buyers weren't real he wouldn't need to hold on to players to keep up agreed value of the club.  It must be agreed with the potential incumbents that no one will leave.

Highly dubious.

Why in the hell would you say this? I know we didn't have any targets or anything even resembling a transfer policy, but now absolutely no one will be left by the time we get our shit in gear.

Shopping on Christmas Eve is what got us in this position in the first place.

Doesnt make any sense to me, surely the new owners want the wage bill cutting, and IF fat cunt ashley ends up still being in charge when the transfer window shuts (which looks likely) he must want the high earners out.

We're probably in a catch-22 situation by now tbh. We can't bring anyone in (no manager, no transfer funds), so if we sell players we risk not being able to bring decent replacements in as it could be too late. Also, they are currently assets so Ashley won't want rid or he'd have to reduce the asking price. We can't afford these players but we can't get rid of them either.

I don't think it's good news at all. I don't think a takeover is going to happen, we can't just fanny about until the end of August and then try to offload them. It's all very well saying this squad might do well in the championship, if it doesn't get promoted then we really would be fucked.

Come on own up who seriously expected players to leave or come in in until it was sold anyway?

It's positive only for the fact we've got some clarity on the situation. The negatives speak for themselves, but it's only right for the new manager to make his own choices.

You know what, on the one hand i'm going to be fucking frustrated if the new owners appoint Shearer. If they were always going to - we might aswell have just given him the job at the end of the season, and let him get cracking on the football side of things during the takeover. But obviously, without hindsight we don't know if he will get it or not. 99% sure he will, though.

God it's all very fucking frustrating.

Say the worst happens and we don't get sold before the end of the transfer window, this will allow us to keep a competitive team, at least one capable of picking up enough wins to keep us in a promotion race until January, where hopefully by then we'll be sold, and can do what needs to be done to push on. This is a positive imo.
