thewellander
I'm curious if any team has actually attempted to sign "England's best midfielder" on a free.
jdckelly
I'm curious if any team has actually attempted to sign "England's best midfielder" on a free. there does seem a curious lack of interest, maybe more to do with wage demands than anything else despite him being free
Hanshithispantz
Has Barton ever actualy claimed he was "Englands best midfielder"? Didn't he say he was the best on current form and claim that hew was better than Barry and Parker or something?

As for the big clubs which his agent was gob-shiting about, I always said that Barton is quite slow and that's the main reason the top teams wouldn't be in for him. CL teams tend to have pace in most key areas.

Doesn't mean he's playing. Just means he's in the squad and i also thought first team players were expected to attend home games whether they were playing or not to support their team mates. timeEd32
Yeah, that certainly doesn't mean he's playing. I think he will though.
cubaricho
Don't see why he wouldn't play to be honest. We need our best players out there tomorrow, regardless of off-field antics, and he's one of 'em. Pardew knows this and will start him.
timeEd32
I think it's pretty clear Barton wants to play and Pardew wants to play him. Just a question of whether or not he's allowed as pathetic as that sounds.

Just a question of whether or not he's allowed as pathetic as that sounds. I think Pardew would like to play him but he wants Barton to be 100% committed to what's going on at Newcastle this season and he's waiting to get that reassurance from him. That's what he's said in interviews in any case.
Wullie
Barton's far more committed to and interested in the success of NUFC than Pardew is, I know that much. Like his boss, he couldn't give a shit as long as it doesn't cost too much.

Like his boss, he couldn't give a shit as long as it doesn't cost too much. If you're right he'll clear that up with Pardew and play tomorrow. If he can't do that then he's not much use to us and he'll just have to wait until the NUST/Russian/Arab billionaires buy the club and hand him and his mates bumper new contracts. I'm surprised he even bothers turning up for training then, he could do that at home with a calculator and a list of player's salaries.

Jack Flash
Why would Pardew care about our costs? That rumour about him getting bonuses based on our finances probably peaked his interest.
Ashley17
As ever I think the truth is somewhere between the two extremes. A reliable ITK (shcoking, I know) said Pardew's remit was to reduce costs but as a manager of course Pardew wants to do well.
