He can be replaced over time imo but it would be nice to keep the momentum of the team from last year and build on that, rather than gambling and gutting it and putting fresh replacements in. I hope no-one comes in. He's going to perform a lot better next season trying to win a contract (be it with us with us or other potential employers) than sitting on a new one. Some players are like that. (However you excuse him or argue that he's changed, he was a nightmare for us for a couple of years after signing his fat long contract, but has been great the last 2 years - gratuitous rabbit-punches and tweets excepted.) Ashley can't sell Barton if Barton decides that he's going to stay and I think Barton's the type of person who could do that. There's nothing to suggest that Pardew wants rid of Barton. He might have been forced to get rid of him by the blokes upstairs (if you subscribe to that sort of theory) but I get the feeling that Pardew quite rates him.
