JH
But he is a better RB than R.Taylor and we will need a certain amount of trained in nation players next year. Because with Harper, Taylor, Taylor, Smith, Barton, Nolan, Guthrie, Carroll, Ranger, Shola etc. we're ridiculously below that number
Consortium of one
with a thin squad and a numpty owner, this is a safe signing. He won't be much help next year when we go up but he's decent on this level and can be signed in the budget. I'll take it.
khay
But he is a better RB than R.Taylor and we will need a certain amount of trained in nation players next year. Because with Harper, Taylor, Taylor, Smith, Barton, Nolan, Guthrie, Carroll, Ranger, Shola etc. we're ridiculously below that number I'd rather not have Barton or Shola next season to be fair and I'm not sure about Smith in the prem. And if any of them leave it might cost a fair bit to get a half decent english player signed in return. So 500k odd for a young english player who i think is half decent is all right by me. David28
Is it done already? This site says so... http://www.nufcblog.com/2010/01/20/newcastle-breakthrough-as-danny-signs-up/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+nufcblog+%28The+Newcastle+United+Blog%29 Newcastle Breakthrough As Danny Simpson Signs Up January 20th, 2010 by Ed Harrison · 1 Comment Just got back from my doctor’s appointment early this morning, and it’s good to see that Danny Simpson has agreed a three and a half year deal with Newcastle at around £10K/week. It says a lot for Danny that he is willing to sign on at the Tyneside club, for what in comparison to other players’ wages is a lowly wage, but hopefully that will rise if we do get promoted this season. The deal was apparently £500K with his former club Manchester United. Danny has also waxed lyrical about Newcastle, the City and its fans ever since he arrived on Tyneside, and money isn’t everything, after all. The distinct privilege of playing in front of the best supported football team in England was probably just too much for the 22 year-old to turn down, and the persuasions of Chris and Colin yesterday, obviously worked. Both coaches will be delighted to secure the services of the former Manchester United player on a permanent basis. While many fans question Danny’s Premier League capabilities, we would hope that by playing regularly, he can improve and become a solid player for Newcastle over the next few years. That’s basically what Spanish U21 International Jose Enrique has done, and by sticking in and keeping his head down, we are fairly confident the lad can improve significantly – we hope so anyway. Certainly the lad’s attitude and spirit are spot on – and he’s just the kind of player we need right now at the club. Congratulations Danny, and best of luck at the Newcastle United club. Comments welcome.

David28
Nufcblog. If Nufcblog says it, then it's definitely true Yeah thought the same but just checked the chronicle as well: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2010/01/20/newcastle-united-agree-deal-for-danny-simpson-72703-25642188/ Newcastle United agree deal for Danny Simpson Jan 20 2010 By Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle Comments (17) Recommend Danny Simpson CHRIS HUGHTON has finally made a breakthrough in the January transfer window after Danny Simpson agreed to sign on a permanent basis. The defender’s decision to join United, subject to a medical, comes as a relief after moves for Matthew Kilgallon of Sheffield United and Leeds United’s Jermaine Beckford collapsed. Newcastle thought that a deal for Simpson was in the bag last week after agreeing a fee with Manchester United, until the defender and United failed to agree personal terms. However, as revealed in the Chronicle last night, Simpson met with United for last-ditch talks yesterday before emptying his locker at the club’s Benton base. And he was persuaded by Hughton and Colin Calderwood to sign rather than face the prospect of another a stint in the wilderness on his return to Manchester United. Simpson, who was on Tyneside today for his medical, is understood to have accepted a three- year deal, and a fee between the Magpies and the Red Devils of £500,000 has been agreed. The move will delight the Salford-born defender who has spoken of his love for the city and the club since joining last summer. He admitted that the United faithful "blew him away" on his debut and revealed that the Geordie fans were better than their Sunderland rivals, who he played for earlier on loan. As his loan deal drifted along at St James’ Park, Simpson expressed his desire to settle on Tyneside after years of spending time on loan at Ipswich, Blackburn, Royal Antwerp and Sunderland. But it was very much a case of ‘Deal or No Deal’ for Hughton today. Hughton was working hard to secure more players today but has ruled out moves for Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp, currently on loan at Doncaster, and Scunthorpe United’s Gary Hooper. TRon
At least the lad has shown he really wants to be here by signing a comparatively low wage contract. He's young as well so I am ok with it although i think he's short of the quality needed to make us play football. Good value signing.
Luc
A three year deal? A contract till January 2013. Strange, but it's us so I'm not surpised.

Ronaldo
Not saying it's gospel or owt but as I've said before my one Blackburn supporting mate said he was one of their best players last season. He knows his football and i fully expect him to be able to at least pull his weight in the premiership.

Ronaldo
Fair enough, as I said, never saw him play for them. But I was told he performed very well for them. Not the first good full-back that Allardyce didn't rate btw.
