Cronky
At some point Hughton is going to have to make a decision whether it's justifialbe to carry a passenger for 90 mins in the hope that he will score a goal. ...is the problem in a nutshell. I'm hoping Barton will solve it for him.
colinmk
Barton is shite for us. The club he should of gone to is sunderland. Hed fit in there
Ronaldo
Aye, their players are as bad as ours, probably worse.
STM
Barton's return will be welcomed with open arms TBF. Even if some people don't rate him on here, he's still better than Butt and more productive than Nolan. IF (and that's a big if) Barton had been fit for the first half of the season, i reckon he would have got a similar amount of goals as Nolan and more assists. johnnypd
got it right today so credit to him. just hope we keep the same midfield even when Smith and Butt are available.

TRon
Good performance on the whole by his new signings. The addition of pace and width really made a difference and brought out the best in the players already here as well. Hughton's transfer dealings have been impressive on a tight budget on this evidence.

M4
This was Roederesque with his hand being forced over the selections. Be interesting to see if Smith and Butt walk straight back in... which they probably will.
Guest firetotheworks
Im reluctant to let one result point to anything, but if anything this result points more towards just how wrong Hughton's been setting out more than him getting it right tbh. Fair play we played the right way tonight, but if Smith and Butt were available we all know one of them would have played.
Dave
Hopefully he'll see from tonight's goals the benefit of having some movement in the team. Smith and Butt =/= movement.
LiquidAK
If he's got anything about him as a manager, he'll see the difference that Smith and Butt out of the team makes.
Dokko
He possibly knows it but needs to play the likes of Smith to keep his value up to sell him in the summer. Butt is gone imo regardless. Also now has really been his only chance to play others with a proper right winger in the squad.

Huntington, Ramage and Pattison played that day and yet we had a lot more fluidity when we had the ball.

Don't you think Hughton deserves some credit for bringing in some players with pace to move us forward from here though? I would say that the addition of Routledge on the right has given us a whole new dimension. It took balls to play all six of his new signings as well, injuries or not. But if he perseveres with playing Smith/Nolan/Butt with Guthrie forced out wide then absolutely not.
