JH
It doesn't matter what respect in the game he has. If the team is poor, he should make it known. With this and his laughable 'denial' comments in the transfer window, even if he is on top of it all, he's making himself look like a clueless idiot in the press - what's the point of slating the players in the dressing room and praising them in the media? Jayson
Everything hes said was right and fine. No hes not gonna lay into the squad as Robson did, because Robson could demand a higher level from his side as he knew their potential was probably much greater than they showed on that specific day. Hughton has a side who have just been promoted & he is trying to keep the positivity & confidence levels up. We've been here before, this is basic stuff tbh. The same crap was brought up last season, before we ran away with the title.

Skeletor
And for those sympathisers who say he has to say something like that in the papers - I'm not wanting to draw the great man into this, but this should have been his reaction yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT90OLq6Ge8
Hanshithispantz
I think it's been apparant for over a year now that anything CH says to the media is absolute bullsh*t. Would just take it with a pinch of salt, certainly wouldn't judge his managerial credentials through it. Yesterday was a good result considering the circumstances, we we're 2-0 down due to 2 minutes of glory from Insomnia wanting to get back at his old club, we shouldn't have been there in the first place but credit to the players for comming back for the point. How many managers are totally honest with the press? What would he gain if he went on Sky and slated the non-performers like he will do in the dressing room? Just because Robson did it once doesn't mean that it's the correct thing to do. Wenger was in the papers only a few days ago saying he lies to protect players. I think some of these grievances are just a little bit pathetic. The biggest contributing factor to the poor results we've had recently isn't Hughton, it's the quality on the pitch. Mick
I could see the thinking behind it though. Routledge needed a reminder that he can't just waltz into the team every week - he deserved to be dropped. Guthrie was the only real option, maybe Ryan Taylor. Lovenkrands and Carroll was the main partnership last season. He rectified it by bringing Shola on in good time. Routledge shouldn't have been dropped yesterday as he gives us width and even if his crossing is poor he adds a threat to our right side and gives us balance, he's even somebody to get in the way when the opposition try to come down our right side. Jonas and Routledge should both play every game when they are fit unless we bring better players in. We were and always are too easy to defend against when we don't have two wingers as we narrow our game and it was seen yesterday when Jonas and Enrique were struggling to find space because they were crowded out. If we'd had a winger on the left the whole of the Wigan defence would have had to spread themselves further across the field and would have left spaces in both the middle and on the left which they only had to do for the last few minutes when we made the changes. Once we had made the changes the game opened up and we could and should have done that from the start.
Skeletor
Routledge did deserve to be dropped. The only real issue is that there's no-one to replace him adequately. Last season he was a breath of fresh air taking players on and getting crosses in. Now he just cuts in and passes it sideways every time.

I didn't say he didn't deserve to be dropped, I said he shouldn't have been dropped and he shouldn't be until we can replace him with better rather than a midfielder who can't play his position. Mick
Wonder if Hughton's been taking note of Lua Lua's performances. Probably not, he didn't notice him while he was here, especially last season before we brought Routledge in.
Ketsbaia
I'm starting to worry about him now. He's not learning things quick enough and we're in deep trouble. These comments about Alan Smith are too much though.... “We’d never let Alan go. He started the season very well and he would probably argue he’s been unlucky to lose his place in the team,” Hughton told the Sunday Sun. “Possibly that is true. But he keeps pushing and he’s not a player that we will sell or let go of.” Smith’s omission has been tough on the midfielder but Hughton remains impressed by his dedication and willingness to work for the cause. And he has hinted that his exile from the team may not be a long one. “Alan has been absolutely excellent. What he gives us is not only on the football pitch – he’s good around the place too,” he said. “He trains well every day and he’s a model professional and a great player to have in our squad. “Of course he is disappointed not to be playing but he just gets on with it. “He’s a good player to have around. “And just because he’s not playing at the moment doesn’t mean he won’t be in the side in the near future. He’s doing all the right things.” http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2010/10/17/newcastle-united-stars-are-not-for-sale-says-hughton-79310-27486967/
Frazzle
He's not going to say that Tiote is ten times the player Smith is. I can't see Smith getting in the team while Tiote's fit, Tiote came straight in as soon as he signed, no messing about.
