Newcastle United 2 - 2 West Brom - 18/01/10 - post match reaction from page 27

West Brom are looking really good, we can't really cope with their pace and directness at times. Saying that, they are struggling with Jonas and Guthrie when we do get on the ball. Simpson has looked indecisive in defence at times, need to learn a thing or two from his full back colleague on the other side.

Look scared when Brom break with four or five from deep. Thank god Smith is back for this. More goals in this for sure.

We are stretched down the right because of strength and pace, neither quality Guthrie or Simpson have in abundance. Bringing pace on the right, Guthrie into the middle means sacrificing one of Nolan or Smith, a brave move when you are struggling to contain the opposition.

Well I can certainly see them scoring again. Their movement and passing in the midfield is so much better than ours.

However, when we get the ball in their final third, we look like scoring as well. It just depends on the run of the ball with this one.

Poor old Lovenkrands is really struggling. I'd put on Ranger, but I guess most of us would.

Shola's actually doing a good job. We'd have no threat at all if it wasn't for him.

I think I may be the only one who thinks Nolan hasn't been as bad as it's been made out on here.  He's played some good passes.

Agree, I think he's been pretty decent. Smith, I've barely seen except for when he gave a couple of free kicks away.

he needs to get in the box more though for crosses, he loiters round the edges where he isn't as useful.  plus his marking was far too loose for the cross that led to their goal.

If Houghton tells them to push up we're gonna be fucked.

Guthrie and Jonas were our best players by miles. Guthrie was overall the pitch which was very impressive. Nolan and Smith both were quite poor imo.

I still expect Nolan to score the winning goal.

Smith has been quiet but I thought Nolan went about his job quite well, played the ball simple, just didnt really do much that stands out. He has his limitations but I never really feel like he is going to give the ball away cheaply.

would any of you make any subs?

if so, who?

I'd do Pancrate for Nolan to be honest.  Move Guthrie in the middle and get a proper winger on the outside.  Maybe Carroll for Shola 'cause Shola is getting bossed by Tamas, especially when Shola has to defend.

However it might lead us to have a bit more possession and ease the pressure on our defence a bit.
