Colocho
Why aren't there more trades in soccer? Soccer?
Guest Haris Vuckic
Trade ''soccer'' for ''football'' for as start Clint.

ponsaelius
By the way the most obvious swap deal is the Eto'o/Zlatan one.
Mike
You sensitive bastards. So, why aren't there more trades in Soccer?
SEMTEX
Likelihood of two teams wanting an available player from one-another is slim, no?
toontownman
You f***ing people knew what sport I was talking about. What exactly do you mean by "you people"?
Mike
But if you pulled a trade, wouldn't you be able to sell a player you receive? Players wouldn't even have to be on the market. Just open to a move. Would the contracts carry over, or would they have to renegotiate terms?
Mike
You f***ing people knew what sport I was talking about. What exactly do you mean by "you people"? I couldn't mean it like that, because there are no racial slurs for white people.
SEMTEX
renegotiate. This isn't a dictatorship like the US sports systems, these are regular work contracts. You join a new job, you negotiate your contract at that new job.
SEMTEX
oh and you can't just force a player to go to some city in the middle of nowhere against his will as well, likelihood of a player agreeing to goto a team, knowing that he's not wanted, is pretty slim. Mike
Pshh. You need to start doing shit like us. Routledge for an unprotected draft pick and a player to be named later.

Jack Flash
Money is too important. The clubs would never agree that their players value matched exactly.
Guest Heneage
Likelihood of two teams wanting an available player from one-another is slim, no? Doesn't stop FM always saying 'Oooh team X is looking for a left back'.
Mike
Do it based on wages, sort of like the NBA. If a guy is making 150k, you can send a 150, or two 75's, etc. I wouldn't expect major teams to do it that often, but you would think it would happen all the time in the lower leagues. Consortium of one
Pshh. You need to start doing s*** like us. Routledge for an unprotected draft pick and a player to be named later. NFL - lockout NBA - work stoppage MLB - history of strikes Yeah, our american way works great!
Mike
The NFL lockout is a bad example. They're fighting on how to split a massive pie. The NBA lockout came about because the people responsible for running teams are fucking clueless and they pissed money away. The system works, man. It just needs to burn to the ground every couple decades. The way things are done in soccer will change a hell of a lot sooner than the American systems. Don't disagree with Americans in front of them! Ffs!
SEMTEX
The draft system is good for equality, but that's about it. The manner in which players are treated, thrown about from place-to-place, would just never happen in the UK, and most other civilized nations. Exiled in Texas
The american system works because their leagues are the pinnacle of their sports (American Football, basketball, baseball, hockey etc) in terms of salaries. So players accept the work restraints because of the salary received. Soccer/Football is a true global game, so no one league can effectivly impose restrictive work practices without it effecting the players decisions to move elsewhere. Hence why we'll never see a salary cap.
