Do people really "know" who it is though? Where are these rumors coming from?

For all the rags are a bunch of detestable cunts it's quite clever what they did with the whole Twitter account (presuming someone from within the press is responsible for the leak into the hands of the Twitter account). They added in one false story (Clarkson/Khan) which there is not a gag on meaning they could report on the whole Twitter 'thing' and deny that one story while censoring the rest, ergo confirming they're unable to comment on those specific stories as a gag exists.

Also the fact that 'the anonymous footballer' is pursuing legal action is pretty much final confirmation.

Better get suing google as well.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a few folk with V for Vendetta masks and a large banner with a certain tweet on it at the player in question's first game next season.

Didn't Ashley Cole try to sue Google because whenever you searched for him it came up with, "are you sure you don't mean, "Ashley Cole gay?""

Making it worse for himself ffs  the whole thing's an absolute stroke of genius.

He needs to have a read of this.  Actually, looks like he's recently made the article

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect

Completely missing the point. If it is who you all seem to think it is, it is an absolutely superb piece of judgement, probably made by a manager who specialises in that sort of thing, still hurting from the last time one of his players hit the front pages instead of the back.

Be surprised if the club aren't paying the legal fees. Expect this story to break the week beginning the 30th June.

He's on the front page of every paper today.  Everyone in the country is reading "Unnamed footballer tries to sue twitter" and every single person reading the article is mentally filling in the players name.

And none of them are allowed to ask him about it. And none of them are allowed to stand outside his house and follow him round and harass his family members, like they did with Wayne Rooney. The player won't be getting dropped because of the focus on him like Rooney did... what focus on what? There's nothing to focus on. The focus on his life and on his club in reality is non-existent. The fact that everybody knows is irrelevant because there is currently no platform for it to stand on. He/they don't care that everybody knows. Can press intrusion and spotlight affect performances? Absolutely. Does everybody knowing something but not being allowed to actually shout it out or print it or lather it all over the television? Not in the least. It's really very clever.

Oh it'll all break eventually on the front of the News of the World and it'll be 1-0 to Twitter and all the sad cunts who've got nothing better to do with their time than read about someone else's personal life will think they've got one over on him. I almost hope he wins a Champions League medal so they might realise what a bunch of knobs they are.

I think he'll find he'd rather have a bunch of journos after him than the kind of obsessive otakus who dedicate their lives to destroying anyone who tries to rein in internet freedoms.

He/they're not interested in internet freedoms man, they're interested in creating as much legal wrangling as possible in order to keep it out of the public eye and out of the reach of journalists until at least next Sunday so the club/players/fans can focus on what they need to be focusing on.

"He cannot move without the paparazzi on him"

"The siege of the tabloids can wear anyone out"

This whole saga has got Alex Ferguson written all over it. A billion Twitter users aren't as powerful as one headline on the front of the NOTW, even though they would like to think they are.

I think that's just an extension of the mythical image Alex has created whereby when he does something stupid its put down to actually being clever mind games. The attempt at legal action against Twitter is a sign of arrogant naivety, not cunning, and I hope it bites the horrible twat on his arse.

I couldn't agree less. This story will hit the papers sometime around the 1st or 2nd June, when the legal team mysteriously cave in.
