Derby County 3 - 0 Newcastle Utd - 09/02/10 - post match reaction from page 24

There's enough evidence for me, we were conceding a fair few goals without him in the team. He returned against Sheff Utd and we kept a clean sheet. Even .com recognized that he was the difference in that game.

And again, the second he's out of the team the goals start coming back in, it's no coincidence, as much as you'd love it to be.

Ill leave it here cos we're going down the same roads.

One clean sheet when he returned, we then conceded in the next game as usual. When he was out we conceded one and kept a clean sheet with Taylor next to Khish. Doesnt prove much. We've looked good since Williamson came in for me and theyve been doing well next to eachother. No reason to believe Taylor wouldnt have done just as well, it doesnt prove he's our best defender in anyway atall.

Thinking about this a bit more, Clough should be annoyed with his players. They can beat us and Forest, hold West Brom and are still right down there at the foot of the table. How come? They're either raising their game when they play one of the better teams or they're going through the motions against the rest of the league. Whatever it is he should be expecting more from them. They're cheating him tbh.

after watching a few games and leaving stats out of it i feel we've been much better with taylor and colo in the middle than any other partnership.

Guest sicko2ndbest

Harper 6 - could he have come for the 1st?

Simpson 5 - Unfit and given the runaround first 10mins

Hall - 7 - Composed, won every header, messi-esque skill in the corner

Williamson - 6 - Won most header

Van - 5 - Did nothing

Nolan - 6 - hit and miss. Is probably our most composed player when in an attacking position

Guthrie - 6 - Pretty without being effective

Routledge - 6 - Some nice touches but needs to improve his movement off the ball

Jonas - 5 - Looked unfit, poor end product (groundhog day)

Best - 6 - Average, not bad, but certainly not promising. Dosnt seem to have that explosive pace

Carroll - 5 - Bullied and out fought

Pretty horrific result that largely negates the Cardiff mauling. But we're still top with a game in hand, and that run had to come to an end at some point. We weren't gonna finish the season unbeaten; the manner of the defeat is pretty shocking however. What's particularly bad is that we've got a really hard game to follow it up with, which is a bit of a bugger - could have done with a home game to sort things out.

Huge test for Hughton now. Another loss at Swansea and bums will start squeaking. Only seen the score so i wonder where it all went wrong tonight.

Ah yeah, just seen the table. Well we're second thanks to a couple of goals, which is what matters - but that game in hand is absolutely crucial. Forest losing is a huge relief cos we stand to be seven points clear of third.

with west brom in the cup at the weekend that game in hand is effectivly swansea.

Just got back from the game. Nolan is a lazy cunt. The officials at the game gave some absolutely shocking decisions. No doubt people will claim bias, but they were absolutely terrible and cost us a perfect good equaliser and for us to actually concede the first one.

We didn't deserve to win the game by any stretch of the imagination but you expect better officiating than that for £30 a fucking ticket.

yup so the Reading game in hand works against Forest, but not against WBA.

It's Forest that matters, really. We'll still have a game in hand over them.

Jayson doesn't half make me laugh at times. We've conceded 9 out of our 20 goals in the few games that Coloccini's been absent, it's pretty f***ing obvious how much we miss him when he doesn't play.

We miss him when the backup doesnt perform well enough.

You keep alluding to him being the best defender we have, theres no evidence for it. Hes valuable obviously.

I'd say performance-wise Colo and Taylor's performance have been similar.

Some mistakes, but overall decent.

Which is something that can't be said for the "stand-ins" !

What have Hall and Williamson done wrong? Conceded one in Williamson's first three games (MOTM against Palace, was very solid against Leicester too) and according to the guy who went today Hall played well.

Basically you've no idea what went wrong tonight as you haven't seen it and you're just making stuff up to blame who you feel like.

Fitz Hall looked good tonight for the most part. Leon Best had his back to goal constantly.

What people don't realise is this gap is getting shorter and shorter.

"Oh don't worry we're still 6 points clear at the top.....10 points clear of 3rd.....7 points clear of 3rd..."

Some need to wake up and realise what the situation really is, rather than hiding behind "Oh shut up and stop being knee-jerk!"

Did you actually expect us to have a gap in the first place? While it's no reason for complacency, the lads have ground out the necessary results earlier in the season to be able to afford a night like tonight.

The aim is promotion, we're still on course for it.

Lets make it clear that we were on the end of some shocking decisions tonight. Sadly the ones by Hughton were as bad as the refs (and his shocking linesmen). Waiting a 2 down to make a change until it was 3 sum him up. Clueless.

Actually, Dave's seen the pen and reckoned it WAS a pen

Pen it may have been but they got a throw given to them in the build up to their 1st that was never theirs and then instead of playing advantage when Routledge was fouled he blew up and recovered to cross for Carroll to score. Terrible refereeing stopping it going to 1-1. Also the ref ignored the penalty and instead waited for the other linesman to give it.
