They play bland football, people dont like watching 10 men behind the ball with no creativity.

All the more amazing then that we are sitting pretty in 6th place with this "10 men behind the ball" and "no creativity" policy.

I'd agree, their current position seems better than the way they're really playing.

Good home form but they seem to draw and scrape a lot of 1-0's without being convincing.

Mind I'd settle for a few unconvincing 1-0 wins.

We beat the cunts 5-1 and it's our first season back in the league after promotion. Job done.

We'll talk again on derby day but they have a lot of work to do to write off a 5-1 smashing.

Cattermole should, from what I have seen, have been off 4 times this season. Handball off the line vs Stoke? and he should have picked up a 2nd yellow vs Bolton.

It's mental when you think 30 of Carroll's fouls were for being 6ft3 and having the cheek to jump whereas Scrattermole should have probably been fined!

Away from home perhaps, but their home form/style has been decent. Their front three work well together and when Henderson's head is on he seems to be able to ping a ball on to their little toe more often or not.

they are fortunate to be 6th, on account they played on a weekend that most clubs had thier games ccalled off. add to that the incredible luck they have had this season. yes they have a good chairman and owner- but its not good stuff they are playing- certainly not pretty (wearside). i belive the proof of how shit they are is reflected in the empty stands on tv.

Even if all games had been played at the weekend we would still be 6th in the league.

Man Utd haven't played "good football" practically all season and yet are still top of the league, good teams win games while playing below their best.

One of the threads on rtg:

"Is Messi as technically gifted as Zenden?"

"Don't think Messi would get in our current side anyways, Welbeck is a better all rounder."

;D

I've seen quotes on this board saying that "they wouldn't swap Carroll for any striker in the world"

Black,Kettle,Pot...re-arrange.

:spit:

Not having a dig mate but you lot never play exciting football. Steve Bruces teams never do.

No need for clichés like, unless you're trying to get a job on MOTD or Sky Sports.

None needed just happy to correct people who seem to think teams who are in the top 6 are "s**t".

I'm not sure I buy into this 'good owner' stuff.

They spent exactly £0 last summer. They had to sell a promising youngster in Waghorn and pay part of Jones' wages at Stoke in order to afford Gyan. If they want Welbeck and Onouha next summer, how will they pay for them? Sell Bent or Henderson?

Quinn seems to talk a good game but that last interview sounds like he's getting a bit sick of the fans not backing the club. Almost like he might be wasting his time.

In the grand scheme, the club is limited by the city. It's a poor city and it doesn't help them attract top players. Most of their lot live in North of the Tyne and socialise/shop in Newcastle and the Bent incident might start to deter this.

A quick look at the history of the Premier League shows that only large city clubs have experienced any tangible success. Boro and Pompey won cups but overstretched themselves while Blackburn were bankrolled by Jack Walker.

Overall, the top half of the league is probably the best they can hope for unless someone seriously bankrolls them and as previously stated, it doesn't look like the American is going to do so!

I will take 6th place at Christmas and the possibility of European football next season over "exciting football" any day of the week.

Incidentially how many other teams play "exciting football"........Arsenal yes,Spurs yes,I'm struggling after that.

change of subject like..

Wearside- can you tell me how many times Sunderland have been relegated in the last 20 years?

genuine question.

Too many to mention but I'd like too think we are an established club now under the guidance of Quinn and Short.

Aye they do seem to have scraped a lot at home, Stoke, Man City, Arsenal, Villa, Bolton etc and they probably got Spurs, Man U and Liverpool games at perfect times. Never mind it all evens out over time as the say.

Interesting the bit about "good chairman and owner" - they're certainly a lot more popular than ours are, the yank doesn't actually seem too interested in football but he bought the club really cheap and probably sees it as a decent investment.

Quinn - bah - totally inoffensive but always been a bit sugary sweet blarney for my liking.

Nowt to do with football but I think I'd rather have a night out with Deggsy - at least you'd get to a few decent bars and probably pull a slapper or two. Saint Niall would bore the arse off you with his magic carpet stuff and want to be home for a cup of cocoa by ten o' clock.

Maybe we could have a poll - night out with Quinn or Deggsy which would you rather have ?
