Bendtner has claimed he has spoken to a Premier League club over the summer with August 31st now on the horizon – and he may be the man Newcastle turn to if they keep firing blanks in their bid for a new goal hero. Anxiety is growing for United supporters who have waited patiently for the club to replace £35million Andy Carroll. Since then, striker-wise, only free transfer Demba Ba has come through the entrance doors at St James’ Park. Other candidates in the striker department have moved on with Shane Long joining Premier League rivals West Brom while Peter Crouch – a player Pardew admires – is linked with Stoke. But following Jose Enrique's exit there could be more departures before the window slams shut and the Chronicle understands that Rangers are now weighing up a swoop for ex-Ibrox hero Peter Lovenkrands. United still have business to do in the transfer window with Pardew knowing he must clinch a new centre-forward and a left-back soon with less than three weeks of the window left. Today's confirmation of Jose Enrique’s move to Liverpool opens the door for Dutch international left-back Erik Pieters to arrive on Tyneside. Securing Pieters would be classed as a coup for United with the 10-times Dutch international regarded as hot property in Holland. However, Rutten does not want to lose the player after another fall-out with Wilfred Bouma. Rutten said: “I spoke with Bouma and the matter has been resolved. "It was a case of much ado about nothing. I made it emphatically clear he cannot leave PSV. "The same goes for Erik Pieters."
