I'll take either one as long as they're in before Saturday and we don't have to witness the holocaust that is Ryan Taylor at left back.

No, you demand both.

Anything less and I'll rip up my season ticket. :troll:

werent they saying last week or summit that we've exhausted our list of continental strikers and were turning our attentions to home-based options or even loans?

its a joke to be fair, the amount of time we've had to find one and it just doesnt seem to be happening for us

NEWCASTLE United manager Alan Pardew IS understood to be considering a swoop for out of favour Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner as his frustrating search for a striker continued today.

Manchester United’s Federico Macheda is another name that has cropped up in recent days but the Italian – who is available for loan again after a stint with Sampdoria last term – is not tempting the Magpies at this stage with more senior options on Pardew’s list.

Bendtner has claimed he has spoken to a Premier League club over the summer with August 31st now on the horizon – and he may be the man Newcastle turn to if they keep firing blanks in their bid for a new goal hero.

Anxiety is growing for United supporters who have waited patiently for the club to replace £35million Andy Carroll. Since then, striker-wise, only free transfer Demba Ba has come through the entrance doors at St James’ Park.

Other candidates in the striker department have moved on with Shane Long joining Premier League rivals West Brom while Peter Crouch – a player Pardew admires – is linked with Stoke.

But following Jose Enrique's exit there could be more departures before the window slams shut and the Chronicle understands that Rangers are now weighing up a swoop for ex-Ibrox hero Peter Lovenkrands.

United still have business to do in the transfer window with Pardew knowing he must clinch a new centre-forward and a left-back soon with less than three weeks of the window left.

Today's confirmation of Jose Enrique’s move to Liverpool opens the door for Dutch international left-back Erik Pieters to arrive on Tyneside.

And despite baulking at the initial look at Joey Barton’s wages, Merseyside sources across Stanley Park claim that Everton are trying to look at ways of making a move for the boyhood Bluenose a reality.

Barton has made it clear he would love to stay on Tyneside and he has his fair share of supporters hoping for the same, yet it remains to be seen if differences can be fully resolved.

Yet it is the striker situation that is causing the most tension among Toon fans.

Bendtner, whose is under contract with Arsenal until 2014, played in the first half of Denmark’s friendly at Hampden Park last night with Toon spies keeping a close eye on his contributions.

Bendtner has netted 22 times in 98 matches for Arsenal and has been told he has no future at the Emirates Stadium.

Pardew admitted after Saturday's game with Fiorentina that Enrique's future was in his own hands and Toon backroom staff had been resigned to losing the defender.

The Toon boss would have loved to keep Enrique but it was clear the Spaniard didn't want to stay, with Pieters lined up as his replacement.

Pardew did not travel to Alkmaar last Sunday, despite booking a flight, after learning that Pieters was not in PSV Eindhoven’s starting line-up but chief scout Graham Carr was in attendance.

The left-back did finally appear in the second half with Carr taking in his performance and the defender is keen on a move to Newcastle.

Pieters has fallen out with his coach Fred Rutten. The 23-year-old signed a new long-term deal with PSV this year but has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for between 8-10million Euros.

Securing Pieters would be classed as a coup for United with the 10-times Dutch international regarded as hot property in Holland.

However, Rutten does not want to lose the player after another fall-out with Wilfred Bouma.

Rutten said: “I spoke with Bouma and the matter has been resolved.

"It was a case of much ado about nothing. I made it emphatically clear he cannot leave PSV.

"The same goes for Erik Pieters."

Yet the escape clause in Pieters’ contract could leave Rutten with no choice.
