Ronaldo
It wasn't the FA cup, it was the quater final of the league cup and we should have won that game but for the b****** ref as they should have had at least one player sent off. It was Gerald Ashby, was it not? He's dead now, anyway.
Mick
That was a cracker, but Shearer's volley v Everton and his sidefoot volley v Villa beat it for me. This is where it becomes more like art than science. I've got a memory bank full of scorchers, shall we reminisce? Ginola gets it for me because of the way he played with the ball before he volleyed it, you would be a cheeky bastard to try that during training yet he pulled it off during a match, I just stood up in disbelief. I couldn't speak, all I could do was stand up and point while laughing like a little lass. I kept turning around to my mates and pointing towards the goal without saying anything. Mick
http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/400x/33893874.jpg I've still got that shirt and bring it out for special occasions, that is my favourite shirt ever. The shirt looked class but it also represents one of the best times I’ve had following us. A lot of the players who wore that shirt would get into every team we’ve had since. If only we'd managed to replace Keegan with Bobby instead of Dalglish.

Kanji
Keegan to Sir Bobby? Oh my. That would have been fucking fantastic. Weren't we courting Sir Alex too? (HTT seemed to have mentioned that one time)
Super Duper Branko Strupar
Keegan to Sir Bobby? Oh my. That would have been f***ing fantastic. Weren't we courting Sir Alex too? (HTT seemed to have mentioned that one time) Can't remember the Ferguson link myself, would highly doubt it. Only reason we didn;t get Bobby after Keegan was he had agreed to take the scouting role with Barca after they'd replaced him for no good reason. Mick
Keegan to Sir Bobby? Oh my. That would have been f***ing fantastic. Weren't we courting Sir Alex too? (HTT seemed to have mentioned that one time) With hindsight, we should have appointed a caretaker and waited for Bobby. Bobby was by far the one I wanted to replace Keegan, Dalglish came in a distant 2nd and I was never really into him as I had a bad feeling about him before he arrived. As for Ferguson, I've heard him mentioned but I'm not sure how true or when it was.

Superior Acuña
To be fair, Dalglish had just won the league at Blackburn and Liverpool, bringing him into a team that'd finished 2nd, I thought he had a great chance of doing it with us.
newsted
Tbf, I didn't. A dour incomprehensible paranoid supercilious egotist was one of the last things on my list. When I saw the SSN broadcast of Dalglish's appointment I muttered "for fuck's sake", facepalmed and bought a pint. If I'd been younger I would have cried, but you've got to man up. His interview was basically "Ahonta stepasra shemany shays babba sheshaman slacks" but he fluked 2nd and a cup final with Keegan's team and proceeded to destroy that team and make it dour and miserable just like him. And then whine about it. As he might say, "Gaytpair, bahmah".
Guest firetotheworks
I'm hugely biased because Ginola is my favourite Newcastle player ever, but I can still see that Robert brought something perhaps less unpredictable and beautiful, but more effective. It's a toss up between the joy of watching football and the joy of us winning. I never had to really pick between the two with the KK and SBR teams, so I would pick Ginola everytime. Matt
Why do you think a sending off would affect a player like him so much though? I haven't got a clue but you could see it happen without knowing why, it was as if something just snapped in him. The decision was a shocker and the ref was a disgrace that night as Ginola had chunks kicked out of him every time he was on the ball until he lashed out. Ginola had already been booked for being fouled, yes, he was fouled and yes, he was booked. It wasn't the FA cup, it was the quater final of the league cup and we should have won that game but for the bastard ref as they should have had at least one player sent off. On the day of the game, the Chronicle ran a story of Ginola praising Lee Dixon for something sporting he did during a game between Arsenal and PSG. Talk about tempting fate. I've been fortunate enough to be at all of the great games at home and a few away, but nothing comes close to that moment when Shearer whipped that ball in at Wembley for Rob Lee. It sounded like the roof was going to come off. I didn't even see the ball going in, I was already celebrating. My greatest moment supporting Newcastle. Ginola was a breath of fresh air when he first arrived, and it lasted about half a season. He scored a couple of cracking goals after that, the Ferencvaros one as mentioned above, and the one in the glorious 5-0, but the lack of productivity in general pissed me off. I was in the minority then and I still clearly am. Me mam bought me a Ginola T-shirt at the time and I put a brave face on and said it was great, but I never wore it after that. If she'd given me a Robert overhead backheel volley v Fulham one I'd still be wearing it now. To work. To bed. In the bath. That was crazy good. Would have loved Ginola to have done that, but he was just too huffy. Really big bloke too, 6'2" and stacked, he should have been knocking defenders over, not falling over. All the skill you could want as well. What a waste. Btw, Robert was more unpredictable. You can decide who was more beautiful I just watch the football

I did love this moment of course, but I can't put it with my top toon memories because it ultimately resulted in nothing. Overall, that was a depressing day. On the final whistle, looking back on the recent joy just made it more tragic. So should've won that (but then we were lucky v spurs the year before). Ar just imagine man what it would be like to see us score in a cup final

Ginola had more flow and grace in the way he played. It's not an argument that needs to be fought aggressively from either side because they were both fantastic players. I just prefer Ginola at his best, despite it being shorter lived.
LucaAltieri
Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but thought it was interesting: http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/458392/Tottenham-hero-David-Ginola-I-can-work-my-magic-on-Andros-Townsend EXCLUSIVE: I can work my magic on Andros Townsend - Spurs legend David Ginola DAVID GINOLA has offered his services to Tim Sherwood in order to help find the “je ne sais quoi” Tottenham need to qualify for the Champions League. The White Hart Lane legend completes his UEFA A coaching licence in the summer and is already considering where he might like to dip his toe into the world of football coaching. With his former team-mates Sherwood and Les Ferdinand currently in charge at the club, Ginola believes specialist knowledge gleaned from years as the creative force for PSG, Newcastle, Spurs and Aston Villa among others could give Tottenham the edge they need as the race for the top four places heats up. “I would love to help out,” said Ginola. “It would be a great job to make my first steps into the business. It would be great to see how I worked with the players and whether I could add something positive to the team - especially Spurs. “Obviously I would have some ideas and some good stuff. “I would love to be involved with the club and bring on some new ideas about the way Tottenham should play.” In particular, Ginola believes he can unlock the full potential of Andros Townsend. The former France international humbly proclaims he is not worth it when I include him in a list of Tottenham flair players that includes Ossie Ardiles, Paul Gascoigne and Chris Waddle. But the fact remains that since the departure of Gareth Bale, Spurs have not had a world-class virtuoso to add his own dimension. “I haven’t really seen anybody doing anything really special for Tottenham this season,” said Ginola. “Emmanuel Adebayor, perhaps, in terms of scoring goals. “But not somebody getting the ball in the middle of the park, going forwards, taking the danger into the last third of the pitch – I have not seen that much. “Tottenham haven’t bought any players capable of doing something like that and the one player they have who could do is Andros Townsend. “The trouble is, at the moment he doesn’t succeed much because he has so many shots off target. So many times he fails to get any reward for the things he tries. “He can really bring something to the team and when the ball reaches his feet, you can see that he has the capability of creating something completely different. “However, when he is running at players, dribbling and doing his stuff, the final decision he makes is not really appropriate. He goes on to shoot when he should have passed or tried a one-two. “I would love to work with him on getting all the end product. His start is always good – getting the ball from the line and running inside or outside. “He needs to work out how he gets a cross in, or how he will get a shot on and he needs help to decide what happens next. That makes a major difference in modern football – the difference between a great player and an average one. That’s where Gareth Bale scored so highly. “Andros should have had more goals and more assists. Too often people are disappointed with the final result. I would love to work with him to find out why he takes the decisions he does.” Townsend should be fit again for Sunday’s game against Everton, another of the BT Sport anaylst Ginola’s former clubs, with Mousa Dembele also back in training. It is the first game back at White Hart Lane since the 5-1 demolition by Manchester City nine days ago and Ginola believes that while many have suffered against Manchester City, Tottenham must do better this time round against another of the Premier League’s top sides. “We saw them struggle against Manchester City and if you cannot compete with the best, how are you going to be among the best?” said Ginola. “That’s a problem. “You could see the limit of signing a lot of players in the summer. Against the best, Spurs have struggled. “I don’t know if they are going to finish in the top four – it seems that everybody is playing for that. It is very tight. “But needless to say it would be another disappointment to miss out again.” He's untested. Would you want him here working with Hatem?
