I've been a massive critic of Lucas but even I have to admit he's improved a fair bit over the last 6 months. Still don't think he's been as great as some make out, mind.

He's been very good for 18 months, not 6.

Can't agree personally. He was awful when he first joined, has improved to "decent" and delivered some very good performances. Wouldn't say he's been very good consistently, not at all.

Haddaway, he's been easily their most consistent performer. One of their few that has put in good performances consistently, infact.

To be fair he joined of the back of his first season playing for Gremio, it can't be easy for an 18/19 year old lad with a huge reputation to come to England and settle in straight away in that position.

I agree with Sewelly though, last 18 months he's been fantastic. I can't really think of too many better around that does what he does.

Lucas was one of our best players in Rafas last season as well, but the team as a whole were shit so it wasn't noticed outside.  He was the fans player of the season last year, and may well be again this season, we'll have to wait and see how his injury goes.

Honestly, I haven't really seen it, and I'm trying not to be biased. We'll agree to disagree. Not really seen much in him to suggest he's more than a decent player who can sometimes turn in good performances.

More generally, Liverpool will not be going far if they're relying on Lucas to be a key player.

6 months would mean his season's over wouldn't it? Massive blow for Liverpool if true.

Massive blow indeed.  Hate to revel in other's misfortune and it probably says a lot about me as a human being that I am elated.

The whole season. Ouch. Don't rate Lucas as highly as everyone else, mind you.

He's impressed in midfield for Liverpool the same way that Ridgewell/Johnson/Dann impressed in the Brum defence IMO. Part of a a very industrious and defence-minded side with a fantastic (bastard) in Suarez up front.

Rotten news re Lucas :(

Also, there's finally an article with some actual information about the Suarez-Evra case, including from people who know what they're talking about.

In particular, the FA are considering adding a fourth man to the panel with the specialist knowledge to judge the case reasonably, which I'm obviously very pleased about.

And this:

"The key is the tone in which you say those words," Sebastian Garcia, the South American football writer for Mundo Albiceleste, explains. "It can be extremely friendly to call someone 'negrito' but it can also be very offensive."

Consequently, I no longer think the "mate" argument will hold up. He may well be in for it, and not unjustly.

At any rate, I really hope the FA do hire an actual expert and base their judgement his/her opinion.

If that is what they do, I think it will come down to what context can be determined: "Do you need a white stick there, mate?" vs "Are you fucking blind, you stupid little n*****??"

I don't know either way, but if he does cop a hefty ban, I guess he's got no real grounds for complaint if he used a word that can be "very offensive"...
