Werder Bremen are firmly in the driving seat to sign Newcastle and Liverpool target Hatem Ben Arfa , although the transfer has been held up due to a bureaucratic glitch, according to French reports.

L'Equipe said Thursday that the German club had sent a confirmation fax to Ben Arfa's club, Olympique Marseille , on Wednesday night to finalize the transfer, but it failed to arrive due to a technical error.

:frantic: :celb:

The paper said that the transfer should go through today, but if it doesn't, the pendulum would swing back in Newcastle's favour.

AND

Werder Bremen have offered Marseille 7 million for the 23-year-old, while L'Equipe said that Newcastle made an offer to the French champions on Tuesday.

Liverpool, who have expressed interest in Ben Arfa to his agent, are expected to lose out on the player, according to the report.

Dezza's blatantly passed off our fax number as Marseille's

Fuckin hell bottled dog, you are more negative than me in this thread and that's saying something

Negative, nah. Just doing my part not to jinx it.

Plus, I can understand the draw of a German sausage. Hatem loves 'em, and I can't fault him for that.

Ben Arfa To Newcastle

The International should finally be heading to the north of England, assuming there's no last minute reversal

After slamming doors, mistaken identities and various leaks, the Hatem Ben Arfa drama - or rather the vaudeville -  is poised for its epilogue. Yes, the player will leave. Yes, he will go to England. Newcastle, whose first offer was considered inadequate by OM, return to the forefront. The Magpies have increased their offer, an increase sufficient enough for Dassier to give his approval. It will be a loan with an option to purchase (the purchase price being judged acceptable by the Directors of OM). New castle will also assume responsibility for the the player's full salary. "For us, it's a good compromise" said the club President. With the two clubs having reached an agreement, all that remained yesterday eveing was for discussions to open with the player himself. Dassier said "It's time to bring this to an end, now, and Hatem should make up his mind, and quickly"

Ben Arfa was willing to move to Tyneside two weeks ago, it remains to be seen whether this is still the case.

Meanwhile, he has received two other proposals, from Bremen and Liverpool. A move to Merseyside depends on the departure of Mascherano, and the move to Werder could be effected by CL qualification. Liverpool have not yet sold the Argentinian, whereas Bremen have qualified. "They now have a guaranteed income [CL money], so they could maybe outbid the others" added Dassier.

Newcastle have pole position. Everything should be settled by the end of today.

Convinced that it it is a three way tug of war for Hatems heart. Nothing more.

Why would the dippers want him?

Certainly not a replacement for Mascherano, and they already have Joe Cole.

Poulsen was signed as Mascherano's replacement and they could do with some creativity.
