Cheick Tioté (1986-2017)

Tiote has won us far more points than he's lost us. That said, he's almost the definition of an away player as his awareness and poor decision making is exposed when he's forced to move higher up the pitch.

So it's got nothing to do with him trying to run our midfield on his own?

Has anyone worked out how many points he has cost us this season?

3 today.

2 last week.

3 v Blackburn (h)

He's not a bright lad for sure.

Honestly man you're a fucking joke anyway...

            W D L F  A  Pts

With    8 6 7 34 25 30

Without 1 3 4 10 16 6

Conclusion - you're shit, he's not.

Yup.  It's stupid what his teammates expect of him.  He's meant to stop the other team scoring and create all of our chances as well.  Maybe Nolan and Jonas could chip in a bit.

Of course it does, and I never said otherwise.

I felt sorry for him after the final whistle, he was wrecked and lay on the pitch for a few minutes.

ha! good one. Honestly man, worry about something else. Far bigger problems than this lad, as the I've posted stats prove, unlike the conjecture you came up with.

How come that makes him the definition of an away player?

Because he's a far more effective player when he simply sits in front of the defence and stifles. Look at his 3 best performances and 3 worst performances and a pattern will emerge.

When he's expected to cover more ground, the recovery tackles come flying in and so does the occasional bad pass. He's still our best midfielder by a mile, don't get me wrong.

He played well against Arsenal at home and we wouldn't have got the draw without him.

He was playing 50 yard diagonal balls into the channels for Ameobi and Best to run onto. That's not what he's there for.

He's great when our backs are against the wall and the fact he's also having to take the responsibility of trying to create as well as destroy speaks volumes about the midfield and strikers he's playing around.

And? He's a very good player who often plays well. He's just far, far more effective away from home within our team - for a variety of reasons, including the sackless old runt next to him.

That doesn't make him the definition of an away player, it means he's surrounded by shit.

Surrounded by shit doesn't explain why pretty much all of his iffy performances have come at SJP. There's a genuine limit to how effective he can be at home. The games against Stoke and Wigan in particular highlighted this.

He's one player, probably the best we've got and can't do everything on his own.

Agree with this. Was concerned when Pardew commented on how he'd like Tiote to contribute more going forward, if its not broke dont fix it.

Tiote is the player who will make the team tick and to get the best out of Tiote he needs to be surrounded by attack minded players, for me his only job should be the makelele role - break down opposition play then pass to said players.

He is becoming more than a DCM for us, even taking some set pieces.. dunno if am happy with it or not, we need a DCM to sit in there and protect the back four.

He put some excellent balls into the box for our forwards to fail at.

Pardew did say he could be a real force going forward if done correctly, agree with you though to a degree.
