NEWCASTLE United have been dealt another pre-season blow after Cheick Tiote was forced to pull out of preparations for the friendly with Leeds United this Sunday.

The Chronicle understands that the battling midfielder has a red-tape problem surrounding his visa and must reorganise his pre-season schedule.

The Magpies squad are due to meet up again tomorrow following their long-haul trip home from the United States.

However, Tiote was not on board the flight that set off from Columbus to JFK airport in New York.

Instead he headed for Ghana, with the Ivory Coast Embassy based in Accra, to try to resolve the issue with his visa.

It means that Tiote is currently absent from pre-season training with the Magpies and will instead train in Accra until the situation is resolved. This is not the first time that United have been hit with visa problems this summer.

Boss Alan Pardew was dealt a treble blow when Joey Barton, Nile Ranger and Yohan Cabaye were all denied entry into the United States for this month’s American tour.

However, Tiote is likely to be back on Tyneside once the visa issue is sorted out.

And the former FC Twente star should be back in good time ahead of Sunday-week’s clash with Serie A side Fiorentina.

Meanwhile, Toon defender Ryan Taylor is a doubt for the encounter with Leeds due to a groin problem.

Former Tranmere Rovers and Wigan Athletic star Taylor was hurt on the plastic pitch at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl on Saturday night and walked off the field gingerly.

With Taylor set to be an important squad player this season, Pardew did not want to take any risks.

And Taylor’s lack of involvement is set to continue a little longer until the injury is cleared up.

Fully expecting for us to run out against arsenal and find we haven't got any corner flags, or that we haven't registered our squad, or with players asking to borrow shirts from people in the crowd.

There will be a late night run to the nearest golf course to borrow their flags no doubt..

Seriously.. how can we have this many visa problems in one month?

US authorities are thoroughly picky about allowing entry to people with criminal records. Kluivert had to sit out our US tours for example.

What was Cabayé's reason to be denied a VISA though? Has he had any sort of legal problem?

Something to do with an outstanding debt apparently.

He didn't pay his dentists bill the last time he was there.

Where/who is Tiote training? What links do we have to Accra?
