Skirge
Cheick Tiote: We have to win for NUFC fans by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle Jul 25 2011 CHEICK TIOTE has insisted that it would be unacceptable for Newcastle United to bow out of their tour of the United States without giving the fans something to cheer about. However, the Magpies must do it the hard way against Major League Soccer outfit Columbus Crew, who are trying to win the title in the US. And with the locals scenting blood here in Ohio as they sense a Premier League scalp, Tiote has warned there must be an improvement – especially after going down to little-known Orlando City. Tiote told the Chronicle: “We can’t be losing games like that – it is not acceptable. We’re very disappointed about the game, because we are Newcastle United, and we can’t lose games like that. “We needed to do everything to win this game, but we lost.” United take on the Crew tomorrow night but arrived here in Columbus in reasonable spirits as the tour draws to an end. But Tiote insists that victory is the only thing on his mind after losing to Orlando. He said: “Now we need to think about the mistakes and work on them. “This is a new season, and we need to work. We have a good team, and must be ready for the first game. “We need to do everything to win the last game. It’s the most important thing for everybody. “We know we need to do everything. We have to have confidence for the first game.” Meanwhile, Adrian Heath says he is interested in signing Alan Smith from the Magpies and taking him to the venue of Saturday’s poor defeat. Heath, manager of the US minnows, said: “I’d love to take Alan over here at some point. “We have spoken a couple of times so far and it seems at the moment he wants to sit out the last year of his contract at Newcastle. “So I may have to wait but if anything changes, he can come to Orlando whenever he wants. “I know he likes it here and I’d love to sign him.” Read More http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2011/07/25/cheick-tiote-we-have-to-win-for-nufc-fans-72703-29113137/2/#ixzz1T9zxrGJ9

cubaricho
Go to Orlando on a severely truncated salary and play against shit opposition or run down the last year of your legal contract with the possibility of playing in the Premier League? I know which I'd choose.

I know which I'd choose. If you wanted to play you'd make the move. He must have millions of our cash in his bank already. Comes down to priorities. His is to make money rather than play. That's his choice but it's also my choice to call him a greedy cunt because of it.

Guest Heneage
It's typical Smith he wants to run his contract down not force his way into the team. Spineless and useless, he'd be pritt stick by now if he was horse.
Cajun
If I was a footballer who was set for life I think I would go play in a league that was more my level (about 4 years ago). The fact it's a very, very nice place to live and somewhere he obviously likes a lot would also help. He must know he is way, way down the pecking order here. If you think Owen is a spineless twat who is happy for the rare 15 mins you can't really defend Smith who will get even less chances.
AyeDubbleYoo
I agree with you, but I can see why he would prefer to train for another season with our reserves, pick up massive wages, then join Orlando after that. It would be a very difficult thing to say no to.

Guest schmuck
It's typical Smith he wants to run his contract down not force his way into the team. Spineless and useless, he'd be pritt stick by now if he was horse. Such is his level of ability he could be trying to force his way into the team every second of every day and we'd never know. Ashley and the club gave him his contract though, it's no use getting irate at Smith for making them honour it.
