Steven Taylor (now retired)

Recommended Posts

Ian wants Yanga back in the side after what Sturridge did to him last time round.

You're confident Steven Taylor can handle Suarez and Sturridge?

I'm happy to admit I rate Mapou higher than Taylor and Williamson, not sure that should be such an issue.

It's not. It's just Colo and Taylor are a proven decent partnership and MYM was absolutely raped by DS last time round.

Colo was raped by Suarez last time he played them.  We should go Williamson & Taylor.

Suarez will rape all of our CBs. That's the price you pay for spending less than a combined £8m on them in the last 5 years.

The only way to really solve it is to buy Suarez tbh.

Besides the fact that MYMs physical attributes indicates that he is the best suited defender to partner Colo against Suarez and Sturridge, I really think he should get the opportunity to redeem himself after the last showing against them.

Sturridge raped Taylor just as hard tbh.

And Taylor's awful positioning didn't help matters either.

Although just like with Everton I blame the midfield more than I do the two cbs....

The gap between the midfield and the defense was the main culprit of that defeat

Each to their own but you could have put scarecrows in midfield it wouldn't have excused the Sunday league defending of the centre backs.

You'd think they had a bet on Everton the way they defended.

Never said they weren't at fault.

But the main problem in both games is that we didn't squeeze the midfield and instead sat back with gaping holes in between the midfield and the defence.

It was bad but they wasn't helped by their midfield at all and any set of defenders would have struggled in the same scenario.

Hmm, I'm talking about the actual goals conceded - specifically - I think you may talking about the first half as a whole.

Yes I am but there's a reason for that..... while we were sitting back and not putting their players under pressure all the while having massive gaps in between our back 4 and midfield.

Everton were putting our back 4 under pressure and gaining momentum right from the kick off, the end result was always going to be defence looks like shit and lots of goals for them.

Taylor was part of the defensive horror show against liverpool last season so not keen on bringing him straight back in, plus it's doubtful he'll be match-fit.

Obviously he plays a lot better partnered with Colo of course, like all our other centre backs do.

I'd have Colo and Yanga back in the side, like.

Players have bad games, man. He's a bit rough around the edges atm but I've seen no evidence that MYM should be behind Mike fecking Williamson, never mind Steven Taylor. He looks like an intelligent defender to me, but - admittedly - needs to improve if he's going to be a success for us in this league. But he needs to play. We're not going to shell out on another centre-back and he was clearly bought as Colo's replacement. He needs to be one of the first names on the team sheet.

If we pander to Suarez he'll just walk all over us anyway. We're at home, we have the attackers to take the game to Liverpool, and Colo and Yanga are good defenders. Put them in the team together and let them understand a partnership to take them into the rest of the season. Liverpool look a good side this season but we don't need to be shit scared of them. No doubt the manager (and, in turn, the players) will be, though.

Colo and MYM should never play together again after that Everton game

The fuck, man? They had a stinker, that's all, imo. Absolutely no way we can decide that they're unsuited at this stage, imo. But they're our two best centre-backs and not playing them together means dropping one of them, which I'd just rather not do. Given how fucking gash we are when it comes to conceding goals.

No offence, but that's ridiculous.

they don't work together simple as that a cb pairing is more than just simply the 2 most talented its the 2 best balanced and MYM and Colo don't compliment each other.

I'd rather we give our two best CBs more than 5 minutes to become settled with one another, tbh, as opposed to ditching the idea off the back of one game.

(A) we don't know that, it's too soon to say and (B) the other options have glaring weaknesses and are almost certainly worse overall.

Except they've generally looked solid every other time they've been paired together. One nightmare performance against the most physical striker in the league isn't enough to scrap the partnership of our two best CBs.

They've only like 11 matches together and that mostly along a new right back, backup left back and goalie.

You'll find that it generally takes much more than that to form a solid back 4.
