Steven Taylor

The only thing that concerns me is team spirit, not bothered about the money or losing him as a player. The last thing we want is Steven fucking Taylor ruining the good atmosphere around the club atm.

I highly doubt he has much influence in the dressing room, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Pretty clear poll result that one isn't it.

Cue sensational newspaper headlines about Newcastle supporters being sickened by the forced sale of their favourite player so the money can be given to the Joey Barton national socialist party war fund.

I can't believe that anyone genuinely thinks he should be paid 60k a week.

Exactly, he's had over 6 years in the first team and the only thing he'd be remembered for if he was sold tomorrow is being that local lad who had potential. He's not even worth £30k.

Id remember the commitment he showed during our relegation season. If some of his highly paid colleagues had shown an ounce of his drive and determination wed have stayed up.

If he's so committed he'll sign a new contract at Newcastle rather than look for a bumper pay packet somewhere else.

He probably would if he was offered what he thinks hes worth, whatever that may be. As yet we dont know.

I doubt the club has offered him a wage reduction.

Has he deserved a wage rise? No, therefore why should he get one? If we have offered him more than his current contract, he wants to consider himself a very lucky boy.

Do we know he has asked for 60K a week. He's not worth that but we aren't exactly blessed with centre halves & should he leave do you think Hughton will be allowed to replaced; no, perhaps a loan deal for someone.

I seem to remember we got promoted last year not relegated again. There is taking sensible steps to curb the wage bill and then there is taking the piss. MA is taking the piss & if Saylor has asked for 60k so is he & he must have known he'd be told to take a hike.

Is that £40k a week basic, or £40k a week with bonuses?

Agreed. I don't know why Taylor fanboys don't just say let's give him whatever he wants, we can afford it.

If Taylor is stalling or demanding too much then this is the best move for the club. The injury shouldn't put too many clubs off as I doubt it'll have any effect on his ability to play to the same standard as before.

I know his agent has said the £60k talk is rubbish, but imo Taylor isn't even worth half that amount.

What about £20k a week plus bonuses?

How about 18k for the first year then 23.2k for the second plus bonuses based on appearances and smart haircut?

This is going to be epic if Ashley gives Hughton all the money to go and sign 1 or 2 players though.

How much do you think were getting then?

I can only speculate as to how much we'd get, but if I had to guess, I'd say 6 million /frankvitchard

Whatever the truths of this situation are, it shows how strongly they feel about this gem from the last club statement:

Promoting regional football

The Board and supporters are aware that Newcastle United currently has a footballing academy brimming with talent, skill and dedication. As part of Newcastle United's quest for a team that truly represents the values of the Geordie nation the club will look to promote, where it can, from within and for the academy to become a leading light as one of the best if not the best in the UK.

The days when players such as Alan Shearer, Steve Bruce, Peter Beardsley and Michael Carrick had to leave Newcastle to begin their illustrious football careers elsewhere are over. Newcastle United is more than aware of the great passion for the game of football that exists locally and is intent on ensuring that every great Geordie footballer has the opportunity to play for his home team club.

A great advert to those local young Shearers, Bruces, Beardsleys and Carricks this will be to know the club will transfer list you without even telling you first hand, and try to turn the supporters against you by releasing rumours about massive wage demands to the press.

He's at least as good now at what is required of a premier league defender as Coloccini is, and Taylor will almost certainly improve in the next few years as Coloccini declines. If wages are the problem, then why has the curly haired one not been transfer listed too, we've another 3 years of paying his wages which are almost certainly higher than the fabricated £60k?

The statement from his agent sounds like they did try to request for a huge offer but is now shocked by the club's "harsh" response:

"Figures released to the media do not accurately reflect the position of either Steven or his agent.

"Both remain happy to continue negotiations over a new and extended Newcastle United contract.

"Steven was disappointed and surprised to hear through third parties that the club had decided to transfer list him.

"He has always given 100% to the club and will continue to do so given the opportunity."

----------

I doubt the club is really "remain happy to continue negotiation" now.

Placing him on the transfer list at this moment means the negotiation has borken down already and the club opts to sell him rather than keep him.

And yea, os probably history repeats, just this time the club refuse to back down.
