Steven Taylor

The club should have told him or his agent before releasing the statement.

Apart from that they have done very little wrong.

Correct that they should have told Taylor and his agent to find a new club if they couldn't agree terms.

But there shouldn't have been any statement whatsoever. Its a big massive advert to clubs that we are willing to sell anyone at a profit if they can't work out a contract. When we discover we can only get £2m for Taylor (undisclosed) every player with two years left will get flogged and replaced with cheaper versions, we'll never get a settledteam, and we'll never get to see our youth talent play for us in their prime.

yes...because everyone with two years left will want more wages than we can pay. It's nothing to do with Steve Taylor thinking he's the dogs bollocks.

Anyone been reading what Farrington's had to say about this on Twitter? He comes across as a bit of a dickhead.

Link?

One thing is for sure, he has it in for Coloccini.

They’ll want what they can think they can get at another club. If that’s more than NUFC are prepared to pay  they will be placed on the transfer list?

People are being stupid.

This isn't even a Smith/Barton/Colo situation where they would be asking for the same money and getting rejected (which may well happen in the future). This is a lad trying to join The NUFC Gravy-Train that left last season.

We're not even an established PL club at this point anymore. We shouldn't be handing out 35k 4 year contracts tbh.

Or simply doesn't rate him, based on his Premier League history?

Decent point. Maybe Hughton's instigated this.

Strange time to transfer list him though.

Might have been waiting on Williamson's performances, Campbell's fitness or progress on another incoming player (on loan perhaps). All just speculation like, probably bollocks.

I must have taken Hughton two years to make his mind up

Really? The Villa thrashing and performance of Williamson made it possible.  Public wouldn't stand for it otherwise. Lulled into a sense of confidence.

Don't try and sway this debate with logic, it has no place here.

Aww, I even got a mention from him. I wonder what he thought about the thread that Crumpy posted about him!

Feel free to PM me if you want to know why I think you come across like that, Neil.

Thank you steven fkn Taylor to bring us to earth after Sunday result..... His latest statement are a trick to see his contract in a year time and go to which ever team he wants to play. It would be great if we get rid of him in the next 6 days....

Just because someone wants more money is that a reason to get rid of him? Everybody needs to put food on the table :)

He might not be a first teamer, but he is a geordie and deserves some support. He was once club captain, and seems to give his all.

No player is bigger then the football club.  Should we go and give ery player a 60k contract and end up like Pompy?

You don't put a player on the transfer list unless you're resigned to them leaving soon for free with their contract running out. It's a signal from the club that whatever Taylor's demands are, they're not going to be met. Therefore they're willing to publically advertise him for sale in order to try and get what they can for him if possible. Anything they get is a bonus at this stage, because presumably they don't see him actually playing a great deal anyway (injury plus at least two other squad members being ahead of him in the pecking order).

There's no comparison whatsoever to players like Coloccini and Smith who whilst on silly money too, have years to run on their contracts still and are currently first or second choice players anyway. Why on earth would we want to give those players up at the lowest possible price? Even if we didn't rate them it would be mental to put them on the transfer list so publically.

A player can be listed at any time for any reason. Nor does placing a player on the transfer list mean they have to be sold at the lowest possible price.

The club could easily have released a bit more information, say “We have offered Steven Taylor what we believe to be a good contract offer.  This offer was rejected but remains on the table. We have therefore placed the player on the transfer list”.

Not the prefect statement but one that fills in some of the gaps. What we get is yet another statement that leaves supporters in the dark. Just like no more capital outlay, confusion and wild speculation is the order of the day.

Did the club offer ST a contract?

I know, poor bugger. I'm sure a lot of us would struggle to feed our families on a measly 40k a week...  :dowie:

To be fair he might be having Nolan over for tea.
