Whinge about lack of depth and whinge about a perfectly serviceable depth player being retained, bizarre IMO

Serviceable for what? League 1?  Not the premiership.

Clueless as ever. He has enough to make an impact at times, should never be a starter but games like the mackems, QPR at home where he turned 1 point into 3 when we didnt look like scoring etc shows he can do something as a player in the PL however limited he is. Plus he clearly has a good influence around the dressing room so why not keep him?

Clueless, look who's talking.

I'm happy to have him around if he's 4th or 5th choice as I've said earlier, the way ToonPack is talking he wants him as backup directly for Cisse.  A 2nd choice striker for us should have a better record than 6 goals in last 2 seasons.  It puts extra pressure on Cisse to score and scoring goals has been a problem for us last few seasons imo, not enough people contributing.

Please quote where I said that, or is it a lie, or just your incomprehension of the written word ?

You've said he's better than Graham.  Graham would be 2nd choice striker immediately if he came here.

Please quote where I said Shola should be our ongoing and primary back up to Cisse.

The people who are pleased with this have such low expectations. If we got rid of Shola and bought a striker who can actually make an impact on games it'd be like night and day.

Really can't believe there's still people in 2013 who gladly accept what he offers.

I will shock you here but i do believe its entirely possible to do both. Incredible i know but theres no rule that states we can only have one back up to Cisse.

Buy 2 young strikers then, which is what we should be doing anyway if Campbell isn't near enough to being ready.

We really need Shola to have an extended run in the first team this season just to remind everybody.

We can still buy two and have Shola as 4th choice or whatever without worrying. Still makes your complaining seen daft tbh

His career minutes per goal is 274.  That's 1 in 3 :fwap:

1 in 3 strikers not to be sniffed at boys. 5 year deal. :fwap:

He can only play 20 minutes at a time.  So it's actually closer to 1 in 10 :p

You can't argue with stats. 1 in 3. :fwap:

We all know that the only reason we are keeping him is our inability to afford to buy a replacement.

A sad state.

Aye Ashley is a secret St Ettiene fan, cant be any other reason for him watching a match involving a striker we were supposed to have bid for 2 months ago

And that possible future leaves us with 2 strikers.

I can count Cisse, New Guy, Shola, Campbell with Goufrann also a striker. And that is assuming we know how the summer will go which we dont. But yeah only two aye?

Campbell is unproven.

Gouffran is being deployed wide at present, so we'd have to fill that hole if we started using him as a striker more often.

Its as if we arent allowed to sign more than one player now, i give up clearly you know already who we will(or wont) bring in over the summer to be so confident

Oh and one more thing. Shola would be here next season regardless of what happens, his current contract isnt up yet.

I imagine we'll sign Shola up and try for another striker in the summer. Try being the key word, because with Cisse, Gouffran, Ameobi and Campbell on the books unless we get a really good deal I can't see us splashing out for another.

Has never managed more than 30 league appearances in a season.

Has never scored more than 9 goals in a Premier league season.

Has never scored more than a total of 11 goals in all competitions in a season.

Has managed 9 goals in the last 3 seasons.

He'd be on far too big a wage for 4th choice but whatever.

Absolute shambles that this is being both discussed and defended yet again.

The problem with that list is I don't see enough goals apart from Cisse.

Shola has 15 months left on his current deal so no need to tie him up really.

I reckon Pardew values his backstage contribution as a flag waver for the club as much as his stuff on the pitch.

Well he'd have to, if this is on this pitch contributions surely he'd be pushed in the Tyne

The only logical reason for keeping him, aside from possible financial restraints.  He must be an excellent (verbal) role model behind the scenes.

In the final year of his contract. Light at the end of the tunnel.

Some are talking like he wouldnt be here after June without a new contract as it stops us signing someone else which was my point. Not really sure what you are getting at as even if we didnt tie up Shola we can still do exectly what you are saying(its what i was saying as well) ???

I'm resigned to the fact in 40 years on the pitch, Shola on a zimmerframe will still be being subbed on for the derby at least

If we bring him on for a minute per game we can extend his one goal ever 270 or so minutes record further :smug:
