Took a couple of lads along today who aren't Newcastle fans and they were genuinely shocked by how bad he was. Embarrassing really. Just tell them he's an acquired taste.. Most of the balls up to him were abysmal. The balls (10+ in the first half alone) were played to him at chest height for a reason; when they go to his feet the ball ends up out of play. Unbelievable Posted January 21, 2012 Share Posted January 21, 2012 I'm comfortable with him being 4th choice at the club. He has proved he can be useful coming of the bench (like vs Chelsea) and in the occasional match where he can get himself fired up (Mackems mainly). He should be nowhere near starting games however, mainly because he doesn't have the energy to be effective for more than 30 minutes. Even in the absence of numbers 1 and 2, I would expect Pardew to recognise this, and opt for a Best/HBA combination up top, a 451 with only Best up top (which wouldn't have been a bad choice away from home) or maybe even giving somebody like Vuckic some match experience. Shola was poor - but pumping the ball up to him as a lone striker against Hangeland is brainless. thats not really even the point here, i understand heading is not shola's strong point, but even when the ball is played to him below head height he still cannot make it stick. thats just not good enough for a premiership striker, controlling the ball and keeping it for a even a short amount of time is the least you expect from a footballer. Best should have been through the middle fromt he offset, as he is the one most likely to score, anyway. Shola is useless at this point. The fact he came out for the second half probably gave Fulham the lift they needed. How he stays on the pitch after loping around for so long is ridiculous.
