24 goals in 66 games is some return for a midfielder

For all the limitations we've seen, all them goals and this hat-trick are the stuff of legend. I reckon he's earned himself an nickname.

If Mick Martin could be Zico and George Reilly could be Rambo (after a spell as Mavis), any good suggestions for Kevin Nolan?

well allardyce kept calling him 'nobby' at half time. if you squint hard enough i suppose 'nolan 4' might look a bit like 'solano 4'  ;D

he's doing a good job, good captain, good landlord, keep it up kev!

There was an interview with Krul after the Everton match in the Ronny Gill and he was saying Nolan talks to himself. When they hit the post and Krul caught the ball he said all he could hear was Big Kev shouting "Well played Nobby! Well played!" and he started pissing himself

Hope the hard working Nolan of late turns up against Arsenal. The last thing we need against that lot is a passenger, especially if we're going 4-4-2.

TP is spot on like, for those that don't have their Nolan-tinted glasses on.

He played well against Villa, Everton, West Ham and Sunderland.

He was terrible against Man U, Blackpool, Stoke and City.

When he doesn't put the graft in, he's useless. Absolutely useless.

He never really does put any graft in. It's just less noticeable when he scores/when we win. The new formation allows his lack of graft as the midfield three do the leg work and the front two are working very hard also. Nolan now has the freedom to do what he is good at, which is be a threat in the box.

This is such a fallacy, just because he's not covering the same ground as Tiote (or even a recent-game Barton) doesn't mean that he's not putting a graft in. He seems to understand his limitations and uses his brain accordingly - go back and watch the earlier games this season (when he "wasn't trying") and you'll see him positioning between two opposition players giving him the option of closing down either once they've got the ball, rather than leave one of them free.

I agree Nolan has been completely useless in some games thus far this season as opposition have starved us and him of oppourtunities and take away Nolan's goal scoring and his overall performances are not all that good. Especially if we are playing Carroll up front on his own, that does limit us.

But goal scoring seems to be what his game is all about and i just haven't got that before. No one can deny his positional play is superb and he's such a natural goa scorer.

However this new formation CH has formulated seems to accomodate him (and everyone else) quite well... so far. Not sure if its 442 or more of a 4312 but it looks to accomodate everyone and our best players seem to be thriving in it....so far.

Arsenal away will be the ultimate test really. Time will tell if it works or not. If we don't try we'll never know so lets give it our best shot. If we get trounced we'll have to come up with something else for similar away games.

24 goals in 66 games is some return for a midfielder

It would be, if he actually played in midfield.

Last year he spent most of the time as a second striker. Not knocking the importance of his goals, but he's not been playing midfield in anything like the traditional sence of the word. Deep striker at best.

This season as a midfielder rather than second striker, 4 goals in 2.

Tbf, even a 'deep striker' would be proud of that record tbh.

Saw a snippet in today's Metro paper saying Everton were lining up a move for him if Pienaar goes.

I saw that. Makes no sense at all.

Totally different position and style to Pienaar, you wouldn't want to sell and he wouldn't get Cahill out of our side anyway. Top paper, the Metro.
