Newcastle United 0 - 4 Arsenal (CC) - 27/10/10 - post match reaction from p21

Absolutely nothing wrong with Hughton's starting line-up today. He had the choice of going for it or playing the squad and he chose to give the Chelsea lads another run out - nothing wrong with that. He made some dodgy subs mind but it wouldn't have mattered in the end. There's no Goal Difference in the cup and the majority of the XI picked on Sunday won't have been affected by tonight's display.

To be fair to them, that was a pretty decent second half performance against the twelve men of arsenal.

0-4 is very harsh on us and flatters them somewhat.

Fucking disgusting refereeing performance from mariner, should be investigated as far as I'm concerned.

The only thing Hughton can be questioned on today is playing a high defensive line against someone like Walcott.

The rest was fine. Individual errors cost us goals & not scoring ourselves.

Krul, Guthrie, Ranger etc

If anything they'll have learned from it.

No injuries was the priority. The 4-0 scoreline sucks, but come on ... Smith, Raylor, Perch, Kadar, Loven, Ranger. It's a second team who haven't played much outside of Perch. A few more first teamers in there and we would have fared much better. Just can't afford that though.

So fucking annoying that when something is there for the taking (the presumption Arsenal starts with pretty much their kids) we don't go for it. Especially when Hughton fucking plays Carroll, Jonas and Barton for pretty much an entire half as well, so much for "saving" them for the weekend. Fuck right off.

So much more annoying than just losing when you know it could have been won if we'd not went with our reserves.

Most of the Arsenal kids are better than our first team.

It'd not have ended 0-4 if say, Colo, Enrique, Jonas, Carroll, Tiote and Barton had started. I dare say we'd probably have won it against the players they started with if we'd gone for it.

A similar line up beat Chelsea but I bet people would have been saying exactly the same if we lost that one. I don't mind having priorities, it was a risk throwing on Carroll, Barton and Jonas but maybe he cared a little more than he made out. I still would have gone for that line up (or similar), as defeatist as it is to some people the league is priority 1, 2 and 3 for me.

Nothing wrong with that performance at all, Arsenal played a strong side and we competed well.  Kadar's positional sense was horrific in that game, but he really is a cb tbf.  Ranger won alot but again his decision making needs some improvement.

very odd game I wasn't annoyed we lost and when we went 2-0 down I said to the lass it wouldn't surprise me if we lose 4/5 or 6-0 but it wont be an reflection of the performance.  They kept going, never gave up.

I am proud of their commitment even though the talent was lacking.

Other than that, spot on.

The reason you didn't notice him was he only touched the ball on two occasions - and each time he was offside.

I know I go on about it, but what's the point of playing him? He's not giving anything to the side.
