Watching the game again on MOTD2, someone charges out of their defence for no apparent reason, leaving Nolan unmarked to score his second. Bizarre decision by the defender (who looks suspiciously like Bramble) who apparantly realises his bus is about to depart and just legs it

 

Didn't know what the hell happened at the time for our second, suddenly the ball was at Nolan's feet, he was right in frnot of goal with no-one near him.  I was looking for a flag, sure he must be offside, or a free kick had been given or something.

Saint Niall offering a public apology for the yesterday's magic carpet crash.

Well I saw him in the director's box at half time yesterday making small talk, smiling and greeting old friends - didn't look overly upset about being 3-0 down.

What a phoney.

 

Don't think the Chairman of a club really needs to be crying his eyes out at half time or throwing things round the executive lounge.

 

Quinn obviously cares about Sunderland.

Neither do I, protocol and all that, and I'm sure he does care about them.

Just saying he didn't look overly upset and I really do think he's a phoney - just a bit sugary sweet for my liking.

Short and Quinn were given a rendition of "Sad Mackem Bastards" as they entered the ground before the game. :lol:

 

:lol: I can't imagine they were too pleased with Daydream Believer being belted out after the final whistle.

I thought I'd just copy and paste a post I made on a different forum I frequent, I got a bit carried away, and it may seem a little rambling, I get like that, but hopefully I made some decent points, hopefully someone will read it anyway. :lol:

 

 

 

As I thought, we are just a better team than them, which is incredible considering over the last 2 seasons we've spent one in the Championship, have barely spent a penny on new players and have been in turmoil off the pitch. Yet they have been supposedly doing well, investing a fair amount of money in players and were comfortably in the Premiership last season, they had every opportunity to become a better team than us but they have wasted it, we've been fairly unhappy with our season so far, they were happy as far as I know with their season so far, they were 1pt ahead of us before yesterday, incredible that the lot of them were so confident they would win this, really incredible.

 

We have come straight back up from the Championship and become a better team once again, I don't see how this can change in the forseeable future, supposed doubts about how much money they have left, and regardless of that, if we stay up this season, any player would prefer to sign for us than them, there's a reason practically all their players live closer to Newcastle than Sunderland and spend most of their time here, it's a much better City and we are a much bigger and better football club, no one outside of the North cares about Sunderland whatsoever, everyone cares about Newcastle, seems nowadays most people want to see us fail, so it makes it even sweeter when we win.

 

I said I would take 1 or 2 players from their team to put in ours, I don't think I would take Unuoha over Simpson now after their respective performances, I certainly wouldn't take anyone else from their team, maybe Henderson for the squad but not to start. They have built such a poor group of players there it's untrue, Cattermole is a useless footballer who spends the whole game hacking people down and trying to intimidate the opposition, well if you looked at his face in the tunnel pre game yesterday, he looked like a scared rabbit, absolutely terrified, and it showed on the pitch too, disgraceful performance which should eventually have seen a red once he reverted to type, Big Fat Head knew this and took him off before he did see the inevitable red.

 

Darren Bent, how predictable that he was completely anonymous yesterday, yes he was playing as a lone striker in a team which barely had the ball for any sustained period, but he was shocking when he did get any service, as I've always said, put him in a high pressure atmosphere when the game means a lot, and he will crumble, and he did, I wish they has got a penalty because no doubt he would have missed it. I'm almost pleased he did score at the end once we took our eye off the match and looked forward to the night out, it means that deluded mackems can continue to try and convince themselves and others that he is a great player, I thought one of his main attributes was pace? Well Coloccini did him time and time again for pace yesterday, he was shameful.

 

What can be said about Titus Bramble that we don't already know? Before KO my mackem mate was saying how he's made no mistakes for Sunderland and he's been excellent, my response was that he hasn't played here yet, the fans will apply the pressure, as will Carroll and Ameobi, and as we saw first hand for many, many years, he will completely crumble. He never looked at the races yesterday, consistently misplacing passes and then a desperate lunge on Carroll to see a straight red card early in the second half was all he deserved.

 

The whole team was filthy throughout, I've mentioned it many times, they are one of the dirtiest teams around, and they showed it yesterday, 6 yellows and a red and it should have been so much more, we didn't just take the win on the pitch yesterday, we had the moral victory too, at times we passed the ball around seamlessly and the players really rose to the occasion, for long periods of the game they couldn't even get close enough to the players to hack us down, it was brilliant.

 

A lot of the mackems are now wanting Steve Bruce out, they are the club in turmoil now it appears, or they are certainly on the brink, clubs like Sunderland could just collapse after something like that, they could definitely get relegated still, surely there will just be no confidence in anything surrounding that club now? To think, 24 hours or so ago the deluded mackems thought they had it all, revert to type mackems, you are a poxy little club which no one outside of the North has any time for, you can now scurry off back into your little holes as you are, once again, the 2nd best club in the North East, be thankful that Middlesbrough are doing so poorly.

 

Every player was fantastic yesterday, but major shout outs go to Shola Ameobi, who once again showed that he has the temperament for the big games, 4 goals in the last 3 matches v the mackems, and 6 goals against them overall, not to mention the 2 assists he got yesterday. He's had a very interesting career, and it seems no one outside of Newcastle understands why we love him, and why plenty of managers at the club have said great things about him. He is a very talented player, and at times you just wonder how far he could have gone without his issues with fitness/confidence and a certain Mr. Shearer ahead of him in the pecking order, I'm not sure if any current Newcastle player loves the club as much as he does, and it shows when he performs like this against Sunderland, a truly marvellous character, and although it seems like he has underperformed overall in his career at 29 years old, if he were to retire now he would take some great highs away from his career. He still has time to make himself a legend at this club, if he isn't already, purely for his performances and goals v Sunderland in his career.

 

Kevin Nolan, who showed he can take the chances when they come around, not a great player by any means, but always works hard and get the ball to him in the box and he is lethal, time and time again he defies expectations, I can't believe I'm saying it, but there really can't be many better pure goalscoring midfielders in the Premiership at this point in time, and he seems to do even better when playing behind 2 strikers as off 1 striker in a more forward role, 7 goals in the Premiership this season and top scorer, a great start, for a midfielder who everyone was writing off, including me after a few games this season. I have come to appreciate his role in the team, it is not one I have encountered often before, if ever, but rather than have a Michael Owen like player who is "in the team purely to score goals", we've got a midfielder who is in the team to link up play, he is a very good passer, but he is also a great goal poacher too, in almost any situation, he can score from long range, headers, generally being in the right place at the right time for set pieces and running deep. A great asset to have in reality, and although there will be times when I'm complaining about his all round player when he inevitably goes games without scoring, when he pops up with a crucial goal as he did time and time again last season and as he has done a few times this season, I will remember why he is a major part of this team.

 

Andy Carroll, although he didn't score, and although I dislike him as a person I think it was his best game for us, I'm fairly sure he didn't lose a header, certainly not one he was close to, and his link up play was superb a lot of the time, he has improved so much in the last year or so it's incredible, 2 assists for him yesterday. I will always dislike him as a person, but as a player he has undeniable qualities which mark him out as one of the top English prospects around.

 

Joey Barton was marvellous, showed exactly why he once played for England, performances like the one yesterday and the ones he has been producing for most of the season make you wonder how far he could have gone in his career if it wasn't for his well publicised 'issues'. An outstanding passer of the ball, even playing on the wing, not his most comfortable position, he can control the game with a stamp of real class, his passing yesterday was exemplary and he was probably the best player on the pitch, certainly the one who had the most influence, I'm confident he can now stay out of trouble, he genuinely seems a changed man a lot of the time (disregarding a story I heard about him recently, it was fairly minor), can he stay fit? He is crucial to us this season as he can dictate the way games are played, we need him to stay fit, fingers crossed.

 

Fabricio Coloccini, I knew as soon as we signed him he would be a great buy, and after a difficult first season where he was criticised more harshly than he deserved (it was the midfield that sent us down that season, not the defence or attack), I believe he has proven me right, so assured with the ball at his feet it can be scary at times, I believe he is one of the best ball playing centre backs in the country, I suppose that's what £10m buys you, but he is such a good all round defender, I feel privileged that we have one like him around, a calm presence in defence. He has proven himself not just as a defender but by captaining the team against Wigan, as a leader too, his celebration shows he genuinely loves the club. He is very similar to Carles Puyol, not just in his looks but in playing style too, I'm not saying by any means he is as good as Puyol, but I believe he arguably has better raw ingredients, and if he can read the game half as well as Puyol in a couple of years time then we have a serious centre back on (I hope) our hands. I certainly wouldn't begrudge anyone moving to enhance their career, and surely better teams will be interested at the end of the season, I just hope we can progress to match his obvious ambition, he stayed a season in the Championship for us and I would just love it if he stayed here his whole career.

 

Last, but certainly not least, not a player, but the manager Chris Hughton, I'm not sure if anyone would have wanted the job at the time he took it bar Alan Shearer, but if Shearer had done as well as Hughton is doing now, he would be getting so much more praise, the reception Hughton got yesterday was amazing, and fully deserved, finally after the ridiculous rumours coming out in the past couple of weeks about his future. He can be suspect at times, but it's his first managerial job in a high pressure environment, and I don't think I have ever seen a Newcastle squad as together as they are now, the team spirit is unbelievable and it showed not just with the performances yesterday, but with the celebrations, and also seeing practically the whole team out in town together last night was another great indicator. Maybe he could be the next big thing in managerial terms, yeah he's maybe started quite late at 51 years old now, but the way he has turned us around is incredible, maybe this is his limit, playing the big games well but never reaching the consistency we should, or maybe he can go a lot further as a manager, who knows, but I'd sure like him to be given the opportunity.

 

As I said, everyone played fantastically but these 5, plus the manager were the real standout performers, and they deserve all the credit that I can give, heroic performers, I just wish we could do it every week, I see no reason why we can't beat the majority of teams at home, if we can do that to Sunderland and Villa, this season has proved we can give a game for anyone, we have got ourselves into a good position in the league (should be better, still) after 10 games, and we must be looking up, rather than down. We've been horrifically unlucky already this season with the Ben Arfa injury after just a few appearances from him, but after wins at Goodison Park and Upton Park, an unlucky defeat at Man City, and obviously the two big wins at home, if we can keep our steady core of players fit (the ones mentioned above, plus Enrique, Gutierrez, Tiote are seemingly the most important) for most of the season (big if for us, I know), the I don't think top 10 is anywhere near as ridiculous as it sounded 2 months ago, not at all.

 

I care about this club more than anything in my life, I've had my heart broken so many times supporting Newcastle United, more lows than highs, but an awful lot of great highs, maybe I am taking what it just 3pts too seriously, but I think we all know it at the very least, has the potential to be much more than 3pts. Let's get Chris Hughton a new contract, and try and have a bit of stability for once, how does that sound?

Summary is:

 

We've got some very good players

Sunderland have done really poorly with their money

Some of their players are shocking

I vastly underrated Nolan, and probably will continue to do so

Hughton should get a new contract

Sky is the limit this season (well, maybe 8th or so is the real limit)

We need to keep players fit

I'm a sad bastard

Got a reminder of what Titus is all about yesterday and why he will always be a terrible, terrible defender. Anyone who makes mistakes like he does so often should not be anywhere near the premiership, Bruce of all people should know that. Let's hope he perseveres with him though!
