Newcastle United v Chelsea - MATCH IS ON

Recommended Posts

this snow better hurry up and disappear.  Our best chance of getting a result is playing them this weekend,  yes we have a few players missing but they are missing key men and are out of form, have off field issues and  confidence has been dented.

It would just be our luck that the game gets postponed and we end up playing them in the new year and have to face the likes of a fully fit Lampard,Essien Terry etc.

Snow won't get any better if not worse by Kick-off if the forecasts are to believed. Lucky our game is on Sky who will push the officials to get the match started.

Don't understand the (extra?) pessimism - contrary to that wounded animal cliche the best time to face a side like Chelsea is when they're losing/scraping wins to Zilina, with Essien out, Drogba in maybe the worst form of his Chelsea career(/"injured"), not thrashing everyone 6-0 left, right and centre and Ferreira getting games at centre-back!

Yet the best time for them to play us is on the back of a 5-1 mauling, our two most creative midfielders unavailable, our two main centre backs unavailable and us having only taken 8 points at home in 4 months.

Yup, and while it's hardly our reserves playing one another, the last time our reserves played one another what happened ;)

Furthermore, you're forgetting one important thing (which I say only half-tongue in cheek given his importance to our midfield and defence):

Magpies captain Kevin Nolan has warned that they may have to adopt a more cautious 4-5-1 formation when they tackle the champions.

Nolan said: "When we're at home, people want to see us go 4-4-2 and attack teams and give it our all. It just doesn't work in the Premier League - Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea don't do it.

"There's loads of ups and downs. We've got to make sure we play a system so players out on the wings get the crosses in.

"It doesn't say that because we're Newcastle United we have to play 4-4-2 because we've been an exciting team down the years.

"We've tried to get away from that. We're trying to make a much more solid Newcastle. We're not saying we're going to be better, but in three or four years, we'll see a progression.

"Hopefully, we'll see a progression from two years ago, when we were playing flowing football and getting beat doing it.

"I'd prefer to let Chris make his decisions and we, as a team, do whatever he says."

Can someone decipher this for me please? Particularly the bit about playing 'flowing football' when we were relegated.

On a more serious note:

--------------------Krul------------------

Simpson---Saylor-----Sol------Enrique

-----Guthrie----Tiote------Nolan----

Routledge------------------------Jonas

--------------------AC9-------------

Guthrie Nolan and Tote should suffocate them a bit in midfield and when we do eventually get the ball, out wide and crosses to wor andy!

He'd prefer to let Hughton make decisions? Like it's his choice. Total cunt.

Playing flowing football and getting beat doing it

Well we can all be happy knowing that no flowing football will be played whilst Nolan is in the team, but god help us all if he's still here in 3 or 4 years to see whether we've progressed.

the pitch should be fine as they can clear the snow off it.  The thing that will put the game in danger is the surrounding areas, paths etc... health and safety rubbish.  We desperatly need the council to pull there fingers out and get the roads and paths cleared.

This game is gonna be called off. I can feel it.

this

It's a Sky game. I'd say that's unlikely unless the pitch is unplayable.

No chance in the pitch being unplayable imo.

The snows been nowhere near the level it was for Boro last season, and that was on comfortably.

Even the Charlton game, which was probably the worst snow I've seen in years, was only called off ten minutes before the game!

Well, you may have a few problems but yes, there isn't a better time to play Chelsea. There is every chance you'll get something out of this - after all, you've tended to do better when you're the 'underdogs' in one way or another, so you have a right to have a degree of confidence going into this.

1-3.
