Not worthy of a thread - 2018 FIFA World Cup edition

Mine would be:

Pickford

Trippier Varane Godin Meunier (aye, I know he plays on the right)

Kante Modric

M'Bappe Greizmann Cherychev

Kane

Subs: Lloris, Mina, Inui, Hazard, Cavani

There’s been nee standout good LBs like. I was going to Vrsaljko there but I’m stickler for the deets on shit like this. I just picked Hernandez as he got to be the final but he’s probs been France’s worst starter.

Went for Meunier for exactly the same reason, I thought he was excellent for Belgium and I honestly couldn't pick a left back. Couldn't believe how poor Marcelo was. He played like he had the runs or something. [emoji38]

Thought Marcelo was great against Belgium, the second half anyway. He and Douglas Costa almost single handedly brought them back into the game. I'm disagreeing with you a lot tonight [emoji38]

They played some quality stuff. That game, quality wise, was game of the tournament for me. That and the 3-3.

Marcelo was fine man. He wasn't at his best, but he definitely wasn't poor either. Was an average World Cup from him. Lots of people have chosen him in their team of the tournament which I believe to be based on his quality rather than what he showed at the World Cup, but think calling him poor is very harsh.  Meunier is a good shout however, very impressed by him this World Cup. Been very good for PSG but hasn't always been easy as he competes with Dani Alves for that spot.

Yeah you're probably right, but I meant 'how poor he was' by Marcelo's standards which are obviously incredibly high, he didn't look right to me. He was the player I really expected to shine at this World Cup as well.

 I for one thought Filipe Luis should've started against Belgium, because thought he had two excellent games against Serbia and Mexico. That being said, probably first time in a long time where Brazil went out in the quarters but none of the players were actually terrible. Sure Paulinho, Willian and Gabriel Jesus weren't very good, but they weren't horrible either like in 2014 where half the team was poor.

Kane with the most underwhelming golden boot winner in WC history. Decent header. A tap in, 3 pens and a fluke

6 goals and some decent performances, deserved winner. Had he had better service and didn’t look like someone who has also played too much football in the last few years, he would have easily added a good few more to his tally. As it was he missed a few he would usually bury with ease. Our best player and now firmly established as a world-class CF, maybe the best in the world right now.

Are we ruling out Griezmann or Mbappe getting a hat trick tomorrow then ?

Unlikely, sure, but not impossible.

Granted, Kane would still share the award.

They might do, but I can’t see it. Those two have probably performed better, especially Mbappe who looks sensational.

No he wouldn’t

If there is more than one player with the same number of goals, since 1994 the tie-breaker goes to the player without a penalty goal, if none has a penalty then the tie breaker goes to the person with more Assists - with the FIFA Technical Study Group deciding whether an assist is to be counted as such.[9][10] If there is still more than one player, the tie-breaker since 2006 goes to the player who has played the least amount of time.[11]

Joint top scorers should have a penalty shoot out to decide who gets it, although Kane would probably lose anyway as pens don’t count or somtheing....

Cheers gdm

Didn't know that about the penalty thing.

Tbh neither did I, I knew about the assists being added on but didn’t know about the penalties until I looked it up
