Mick
Campbell is getting loads of stick yet the game before he got in was a 5-1 defeat with both central defenders getting 3 game bans. Maybe the players in front of the central defenders are as least as much to blame as the people getting the blame. The central defenders who played today were good enough to keep Chelsea down to 1 goal last week.

Ronaldo
I still think Campbell could be our best bet to partner Colo. We'll see.
Ameritoon
If he was able to turn faster than a steam boat then I'd agree. He's just too old and too slow.
The Merse
Looked unbalanced and stiff to me -its a pity you couldn't transplant his brain into Taylors head - willo - colo is looking the best bet at the moment
Ameritoon
Looked unbalanced and stiff to me -its a pity you couldn't transplant his brain into Taylors head - willo - colo is looking the best bet at the moment Which poses the question, what exactly is Steven Taylor's brain? Guest Howaythetoon
He looked every inch the veteran today, he was a complete wreck at times, and in no way shape or form should he be the first name on the team sheet at centre-back, what a ridiculous suggestion given the form of Colo and Williamson not only individually but more importantly as a pairing. Frazzle
It's true. Campbell was woeful today. He showed his complete lack of mobility and his ability on the ball bordered on the terrible. He seemed scared to hit it with his left foot a lot of the time.

Coloccini and Williamson let 5 goals in the last time they played and both received 3 match bans, that's shit form. The defence isn't always the reason that we let in goals, our midfield was shit in both games.

Bollocks. Hadaway and shite man, he was embarrassing at times. It was like watching Mike Tyson against Lennox Lewis, this once great performer, too old, too heavy, too slow, being outwitted by a technically inferior opponent. I remember before the game Sky were showing some clips of him in action for Spurs, Arsenal and England and even Pompey and he was a beast, an immense central defender. Today he was shockingly poor though and on that performance alone you would have to say he doesn't have many games left in him at any level. Colo and Williamson can't return quick enough. His shaky performance set the tone for a shaky back four today. Enrique is usually clam personified but Sol's nervy display had Enrique in a panic throughout. It says a lot when Taylor is having to tell Sol to basically calm the fuck down.

The defence isn't always the reason that we let in goals, our midfield was s*** in both games. This, we allowed both Bolton and WBA far too much time on the ball, I dare not even look at the possesion stats today.

I agree with your overall point though, with a midfield as weak as ours today, the defence regardless of who is playing, will always struggle. Mind the forwards contributed to that as well as they were extremely impotent.
AyeDubbleYoo
He was poor today, but generally he has looked OK. Clearly he was only ever signed as backup to the backup. Losing both our first choice CBs has forced him to start, and forced Taylor to start before he's probably fit. Sol's weakness at the moment is just his side-to-side movement, he doesn't seem to be able to shift his considerable weight quick enough. Poor today, but then so was everyone else. Perhaps but if you watched the fight and were aware of just how good Tyson was, you'd understand where I'm coming from. Tyson in his prime would have dealt with Lewis just like Sol would have dealt with their forwards in his prime, i.e. not being beat for pace, strength etc.
Guest Howaythetoon
In Sol's defence this is the first time I've seen him play for Newcastle in full. I stand by my comments though, he was a wreck at times and a key contributor to our defensive short comings on the day.

Tyson lost to every genuinely good fighter he ever came across. Lewis just happened to be the best, the last and the most brutal. Now if you mentioned Tyson's loss to Danny Williams, or Kevin McBride......
