NUFC reveal amount paid to agents in past year

11th highest, as a promoted club and probably spending less than £10m over that period. Something doesn't seem quite right there.

Not really, most of our 'transfers' have been loans or free signings during that period

Ah, you mean the likes of Gosling and Campbell will have cost us a decent chunk in agent fees instead of transfer fees?

Gosling and Ben Arfa will have cost a fair share of agents fees like despite not buying either of them.

good point.

The amounts shown include payments made by clubs on behalf of players.
Did we have to pay compensation to any club this year either?

It does say we pay the agents on the players behalf so yes. Say Gosling got £500k signing on fee and 20% of that is owed to the agent, we paid the agent direct.

Those figures are quite high tbh for the low amount we've spent.

free transfers like sol will still have agent fees and contract renewals will also have agent fees

They are still high anycase imo.

Probably, when you consider Beckford wanted £750k for himself & £750k for his agent when we wanted him, after they'd spoken to Everton.  Bullet dodged.

Aye and I don't suppose the Ben Arfa deal came cheap.

:nope:

Don't agents also take a % of the overall wage (in addition to any signing on bonus)? This may have been paid up front in some instances

Wonder if we're still doing that. Accounts will tell us I guess?

I'm positively sure one of the problems in the Steven Taylor contract saga is to do with that twat Paul Stretford.

That is from the player. The club will pay a agent for the deal & will sometimes pay the agent as part of the deal on behalf of the player but the % per week is usually direct form the player.

I think you will find it is the other two members of Triple S.

Did the club appoint an agent to work for them during the close season post relegation to try and sell players?  I seem to remember the agent concerned being on the radio at the time confirming the fact.  Presumably the year probably starts 1st July so that might account for some of it.

There may still be such an arrangement in place because I am not sure who has the experience at board level to negotiate player sales/buys.

Yeah, clubs would be stupid and daft to pay agents a % of a players weekly wage.

They did but these figures are form 01/10/2009. Of course the club may be paying some agents over the life of players contract while he is a Newcastle player.
