Will he be man enough to face the fans like Keegan did?

Unfortunately he had nothing to do with it, which says it all about the state of our club. Liverpool is all about Dalglish signing Carroll, Newcastle is all about Ashley selling Carroll.

It still pisses me off that he came out to the fans and said Carroll wouldnt be going. Lying to the fans is asking for trouble.

Iirc he said that he had been assured that Carroll was not leaving. He was only lying if he knew Carroll was going when he said that, I don't think he had a clue what was about to happen.

Let's enter the real world now. Every player has his price, but a manager can't say 'He'll only leave if we get the right offer'. That would only fuel speculation.

"They can put together whatever they like. He is not for sale. I am going to say it one last time, he is not for sale."

And so they did. And we sold him. Will be interesting to here what he says next.

Of course - and £35m is, shall we say, a very full price for AC.

C'Mon man.............this is the fucktard who wouldn't deny links to David Beckham in early Jan.

He's always been Ashleys yes man - he'll be told who he's buying and who he's selling and in the interim he's their mouthpiece.

Stevie fucking Wonder can see that.

Yep. Today has been a roaring success for the casino mates, they're probably in Aspers with £12m of it now, fucking pair of wankers.

No manager can stop a club in our position making a sale like this... maybe only Fergie and Wenger and even then they would have to resign.

Then he should resign if he doesn't want to be complicit. Honourable men like Kevin Keegan do that (and get slated for it), not snakes in the grass like Alan Pardew. Spineless worm.

His lack of integrity is absolutely unquestionable. He was entirely complicit in CH's dismissal.

Of course, he's never going to throw his toys out of the pram.

We're the biggest club he'll ever get close to managing. The whole world knows that.

Fuck Pardew, but I have a feeling that this caught him off guard.  He's probably speechless right now, wondering what the fuck he got himself into.

Why? He's a protected species man. 5.5 years of income just for letting Mike pull his strings. Happy days.

He knew what he was coming to.

Yeah, I know he's guilty by association, but he probably wants the job more than he wants to be seen to be standing up to the owners. I can't really blame him for that, managers probably do it all the time.

Depends on whether he'll be allowed to spend the money in the summer. He might be looking forward to it.

I'm not. Wouldn't trust him with a £5 Argos gift voucher.

I don't have any hard feelings towards Pardew. He's ended up a patsy working for a couple of cowardly amateurs, much like all the others since Keegan. And now he knows it, bigtime. Basically they've hung the manager out to dry, again. It's the same pattern repeating itself.

Reckon he'll find it extremely difficult. The media will be probing about all the reassurances he gave, and he'll have to be diplomatic to hang onto his job. He probably came into it thinking he could influence Ashley with some sound football knowledge and advice. but any authority he had at the club has now been completely undermined, which is the most damaging thing. Anything he says will not be trusted now, because noone believes that the clowns running the show have the best interest of the club at heart. It's all been starkly demonstated tonight in the contrast between how the professionals at Liverpool have gone about their business, compared to our completely shameful and embarrassing attempts at managing a transfer window in the best interests of the club.

It's his biggest test for ages, selling this transfer to the fans without slagging off the owner. It'll take Malcolm Tucker-esque powers of spin, he'll get thoroughly probed in his next interview.

He'll probably spout some shit about being dissapointed and will only want to talk about the players who remain at the club.

Yeah, I think stonewalling it is the only way he can avoid letting it slip that he obviously wanted Carroll to stay. No doubt he'll be repeatedly asked "did you want to keep Andy Carroll?" and "what did Andy say to you about leaving for Liverpool?".

Refusing to comment on it seems to be the only way to go, but then again he is a charismatic devil.

Also all these new contracts for players can now be seen for what they really are - to protect their resale value rather than to keep the players at the club longterm and build around them.  I don't want to hear Pardew saying what a good job they've done in getting X to sign a new contract when it now obvious it means nothing.

Taylor was going on a free so better get him signed up.  Clubs showing an interest in Barton - better give him a longer contract - can't have him going for £1.5m and making a loss.  Ben Afra - Liverpool interested - get the permanent deal done ASAP because he will instantly be worth more than double that amount paid etc.

I thought Pardew might have a chance with supposedly being a "mate" but obviously it makes no difference.

The only thing I would believe is if they came out and said Ashley lost a lot of money buying the club and he wants it back ASAP before he can sell up and make a profit.

I'm still just about prepared to believe that Carroll is an exception rather than an example that we're desperate to sell players. Mainly because the fact Liverpool had ridiculous money to spend so the fee was mental (we had already knocked back £20m+ from Spurs).

Obviously if someone came in with an equally ridiculous fee for another player then we would probably do the same, but you could say that about most clubs.

And maybe some of the contracts are to protect the players' values, but again, many contracts in football are signed for that reason. (We all know that contracts in football are basically meaningless in terms of intention to stay at a club).
