2 big players and 2 young ones who do can give a shift in when needed is progress imo. Its more then we have. And yes, we should shift out the likes of smith, campbell atleast. Continuity with a little extra on top.

Would love the two big players to be drogba and nzogbia /drool.

Not only has Pardew managed a better points to games ratio than Hughton for us in the Premiership this season but he's had the more difficult home fixtures (6 of the top 7 at SJP) and only had Andy Carroll for 3 games.

It's interesting to see what type of attributes the players he brings in in the summer have as 2 fast attacking options + Ben Arfa returning could separate us from the pack and push us up past Everton pushing for 7th.

He has done a great job in very difficult circumstances often having to select and motivate a threadbare team to get the crucial results we needed.

Unlike Steve Excuse down the road, who has repeatedly demoralised his team before they go on the pitch, using pathetic excuses to shore up his own position in a very selfish manner, Pardew praised and motivated his depleted squad and never once bemoaned his own luck.

His approach is a big reason why we have succeeded during a tough period while they have capitulated.

Having had a bit of recogntion from the fans at Chelsea, I really hope he gets a few chants against WBA, he deserves them for the job he's done for us so far.

I originally voted 'Good' in answer to how well Pardew has performed as our manager but i'm going to have to say it's now 'Brilliant'.

He really has exceeded expectations when many of us thought it was a terrible appointment and hs proved his doubters wrong.  :snod:

As has been said so many times in this thread, let's see what happens in the summer... I'm content with him so far.

The poll asks my opinion of his performance so far, but yes it will be an interesting transfer window.

The thread is worth a read start to finish

Amazing the change in perspective

I for one was absolutely livid with the appointment. Fast forward 5 months and I am cautiously optimistic about the future.

He has won me over

Genuinely thought we'd plummet under him. Glad to have been wrong!

Aye. 'Thought he'd come in and play Sol Campbell over the foreigner Coloccini, the experienced England international Alan Smith over that Tiote lad, basically another Kinnear.

He's a good guy though and I'm happy to have him representing us as our manager. Surprisingly adept tactically, too.

The thread reflects has the schizo nature of the board to an extent.  People get more or less pro- Pards in a pretty direct correlation with results.  he certainly wasn't pulling in the plaudits post Stoke/Villa (when we were still in the mix for relegation).

I think he's done well and am impressed by his demeanour and the detail that seems to be going into preparation for matches.  Against my better judgement I've warmed to him.

I was positive about Pardew when he was appointed, Hughton didn't deserve to go but that's a separate issue. I rated him at West Ham (can't really remember why though) and he's turning out to be good so far.

He has made a few mistakes but he's learned from them fairly quickly... doesn't seem too set in his ways to adapt and try new things.

Fingers crossed for a good summer of cockney wheeling and dealing. Hopefully more of the buying than the selling.

pardew is obviously an ambitious person, if he wasnt he wouldnt of taken the jobs when many people said he was out of his depth, so im expecting him to be ambitious in the transfer market. his recent comments about one or two 'big' players that will get "us out of our seats" being targeted already give a glimpse of his ambition of taking us to the next level, while the signings wont be marquee-esk like in the old days, im sure we will try punch above our weight for one or two targets, similar to ben afra.

whether any of them come of: who knows

he also proved to be perfect for the board as hes very good at pr. the board lacked any connection with the fans, and with pardew they have struck gold. right from the beggining we have had this image of him being "in" with the board, especially with the rumours about the casino meetings with dezza and contracts being agreed before chris was even sacked, which has led to a feeling that he knows whats really going on in the club and almost a feeling of trust (something i dont have for him) he appears very open and says the right things we want to hear, or so it appears to be,when really he is just very good at pr.

when he first came i said you can only judge him on how well he does for us, and hes done pretty decent, and he seems to have won some of the fans over, which bodes well for some stability over the next few years

Like some of you in this thread, I was completely against Pardew's appointment and thought he was going to do a crap job. But he has done well given the current and past circumstances.

He has definitely won me over (I do miss Hughton though but can't dwell on that now) and long may he do well. Summer now becomes a very important time for Pardew and NUFC. How well we do next season depends on the bodies Pardew brings in.

Sure fair enough, but it is unlikely that those "young players" are gonna be ready for the first team which leaves the "one or two big players" as the first team additions. If you add up his statement, it looks like he is targetting betwwen 2-4 players. Bottom line is with a first team that depends too much on one or two players to have any attacking impetus and a threadbare squad, that is clearly insufficient.

probably been said like but i like his willingness to put the kids in and give them a chance personally - i honestly think if a kid has the talent he'll get his chance and that really has not always been the case for us

The willingness to play the kids has only came about because of injuries and possible suspensions, he had the chance to use kids in hte FA Cup and didn't take it.  I was pleased with his substitutions against Chelsea but it wasn't all out of choice, I'm sure if it was down to choice then they wouldn't have even been on the bench.

as long as its more sufficient then whats there now I'm pleased.
